I didn't know Antonelli was that good with the bat.  He could help a lot if he can do that in the majors.  Even if he loses 20 or 30 points across the board on the slash line, he'd still help out.

I know he's kind of minor league filler, but Archie Gilbert has had a heck of a year at AA - .298 / .377 / .472 with 21 steals and 11 HRs in 293 ABs.  he's on the DL now.

I wonder if the Nats will bring up Ollie Perez---and have him start against the Mets.

It's amazing that we got him for Hairston but only Corey frickin Brown (and the second coming of Jesus Colome) for Willingham.

Add Antonelli (6) to the home run parade tonight, to Lombardozzi (4) and Marrero (14).

.308/.380/.467 line after tonight's game for Marrero now.

If he played any position besides 1B scouts would be drooling over him

Mike Morse is a late bloomer.

Chris Marrero is on the normal course for a prospect. He;s only 23, and has played pretty well at each level he's been at.

We've been spoiled with quick risers like Strasburg, Storen, and soon to be Harper, but most guys do take it step by step and climb the ladder of the system.

Your right the only worry about him now seems to be his power, which i think will show up very soon, just ask Jose Bautista.

From Adam Kilgore:

Paul Demny allowed one run in five innings on four hits and six walks, striking out one.

Holy crap

End of the year, I'd like to see how his bat's development compares to Adrian Gonzalez.  I'm not saying he'll ever field like Adrian, but the offensive development has been pretty similar. This was noted before the year, and I'd suspect it still is true.

Will we see him in September? If he performs well up here I wouldn't mind playing him and LaRoche at first and Morse at LF.

Nats related notes from the BA Chat:

Quote
John (Richmond, VA): Any buzz on Nat's CF prospect Michael Taylor? He's been getting talked up some by local writers. One quoted a scout comparing him to Adam Jones.

John Manuel: I saw that comp and think it's a bit much, but he is a toolsy OF. He's probably not a CF; he's playing about 80% on the corners in low A. But he is athletic and has power, as well as a solid arm (but not quite Jones' arm). I talked to a scout about him the other day, and the power is legit, Taylor's definitely in the Nats' top 15-20 prospects, maybe a bit higher (depending on who they sign).

Ernie (Washington DC): John, When do you see Lombardazzi coming up and taking over 2B ?

John Manuel: He better do it before Anthony Rendon signs and gets comfy at 2B. I could see Lombardozzi as the 2012 2B placeholder. Nats' plan looks good — Morse 1b, Rendon 2b, Zim 3b, Espinosa moving to SS, Werth LF, Harper RF, Ramos C ... they need a CF, but otherwise, that plan looks solid for me for 2013, provided Werth isn't completely useless by then.

I'd throw him out in center too. He's got speed to burn, is athletic ... he appears to have the tools to play center. I know he's just learning the OF, but you might as well put him in CF now to get used to the spot if he has any potential to play there in the future.

And herein lies the problem with taking the stats writers use to support their claims ... Manuel says he's played about 80% of the time on the corners.

Looking at the stats, he's played 75 of 98 games in center field.

Im no mathematician, but that doesn't look like 80% of his games are at the corner spots.

I was the one that asked that question and the Purke one.  As soon as I saw that, I left the chat.

How much better do we think of Bowden if Marrero, Hood, and one of Smoker or McGeary turn into MLB regular position players or have prominent roles on MLB pitching staffs? The two position players aren't behind any but the elite in their high school classes, and the two pitchers seem to be rounding into form after early injuries.

Hood was a good pick, as was McGeary at the time. But I really wouldn't give him credit per se.

You have to consider more than just the guys brought in. He also has to be judged on how he developed them. He rushed players far too often (Desmond & Rhinehart to name 2 examples)
