Anyone want to develop a Smoker profile? It's interesting to do a search for "smoker" on the website. His rankings as a prospect have popped up and down, but the conversion to a reliever revived interest in him. Still seems walk-prone, but today was only the second time he's been scored on. Came in in the middle of the 6th with a runner on, got his 2 outs, then walk the first two batters in the 7th, and one of them scored.
You have to like what Eury Perez has done lately. Batting .419 with 3 Doubles, 4 RBIs, 5 SBs, 0 CS in his last 10 games.BA on the season up to .313 with 12 SBs and only 1 CS.
SF - was there ever a thought that he'd develop power? I think when I looked his SLG was the same as his OBP (which is 0 XBH). I'm surprised he has not blind lucked his way to a triple. Granted, he's just turned 21, but you'd like to see an occasional gap line drive.
I never heard any thought of him developing power. IMO he projects as a .300/.350/.400 hitter which can be valuable with 40+ SB potential and good outfield defense.
Everytime I think of Eury, I think of Carlos Gomez with a bit of a higher AVG.
Eury has almost no power, but he can spray the ball. Unfortunately, almost all of his hits are on the ground and he beats out a ton of infield throws. Once he gets to AA and AAA (and eventually MLB), a lot of his infield singles will be stopped by better defenders.
Not nessesarily. Roger Bernadina is batting .300 right now and i'd guess that 60% of his hits have been in the infield, or barely squirting out. He's only driven a few balls.
3 Nationals minor leaguers named Players of the Week in their respective leagues for the period of May 9-15. Aubrey, Peacock & Ray.
I'm man-crushing a bit on Michael Taylor, CF - HagerstownHe's had a much better May than April.April - 58 AB - .172/.258/.293/.551 - 1HR, 5RBI, 6/18 BB/K, 5/2 SB/CSMay - 49 AB - .306/.358/.531/.889 - 2HR, 12RBI, 4/13 BB/K, 3/0 SB/CSHe's just turned 20, and he's been moved from SS to CF. Former 6th round pick in 2009 out of HS. Not sure if this is anything more than a hot streak... but it's always nice to see young guys show some improvement. Slightly intrigued by his power potential... 11/25 hits have been for extra bases.
Trevor Holder had 7 scoreless innings tonight against Matusz and the Keys and then gave up 3 runs in the 8th inning to lose the game 3-2.8 IP 6 H 3 ER 0 BB 5 K (Complete Game, loss)He is 1-5 on the season with a 5.57 ERA. 23 Ks to 4 BBs in 42 IP. Pretty pedestrian overall and definitely not worth a 3rd round pick. Profiles as nothing more than a low-leverage middle reliever. Didn't Rizzo say after drafting him that this guy was a bonafide Major League pitcher and they couldn't pass on him?
In tandem with the Perez move, OF Jesus Valdez and P Ryan Mattheus have been bumped to AAA.Mattheus, acquired in the Beimel trade (along with Robinson Fabian who was cut this year), has been excellent in relief for Harrisburg this season. In 14.2 IP, he has let up 9 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 18 and walking 5.
