Santangelo was better today.  I actually listened to a couple of innings (maybe even four) before the incessant chatter drove me back to Motorhead.

For some reason, I feel that guys who had careers like FP, translate very well to the broadcast booth for doing color commentary. He was kind of a scrappy player, blue collar player and he played 6 different positions. By playing (and learning to play) so many different positions I think he can offer some insight that others cannot.

He needs to wear the lucky suit and tie again tomorrow or Thursday.

What are you, kidding ?  He's pathetic - enough to make me turn off the TV volume and listen on the radio

Dibble was so much better

This guy is a breath of fresh air IMO. Dibble tried to be the whole show, Santangelo is a nice piece of the puzzle, and he doesn't drive me crazy like Ray did.

I think Santangelo is growing by the day. I'm very impressed by his noticeable improvement since spring training. I can definitely live with him doing color for the foreseeable future.

He doesn't say, "Good old country hardball," enough. If he said that more often or that was the answer to every question then I would like him more.

You think FP was juicing?
If so, he must have really sucked. He had a career 21 homers in 1691 ABs.

Great read
I have to give him props for admitting it, I can see his rationalization behind doing so though.

Barry Bonds is just an arrogant jerk. He didn't need them, he wanted them.
FP at least was trying to prolong his career after a potential career ending injury. I said I could see his rationalization behind doing so, not that what he did was admirable.

FP goes on my Pettite / Roberts of guys who consciously cheated but are remorseful and honest about it.  I'll not hold it against him, but I also reserve the right to joke about their conduct whenever there is a good straight line.

Dibble was so much better

Dibble was a pompus, bombastic, inarticulate know-nothing. His entire knowlede of baseball was "throw more fastballs and strikes." He was known as a dumbass as a player and he confirmed that as an announcer. The only reason he was liked by some was that he ripped the Nats for sucking so bad and therefore fans vicariously got to vent their frustrations.

BTW, I just cut and paste the above at every point that pinhead's name comes up.

It's amusing to me that FP was not a pitcher yet he is better at talking about pitching than Dibble ever was. I'm glad to hear FP break down each situation and talk about what the pitcher should do, or try to rationalize why the pitcher threw a pitch. I don't miss here "BRING THE HEATER" or "HE SHOULD'VE THROWN [fill in the blank with a pitch he did not throw]"
This. FP is better at everything than Dibs. Except the arrogance thing.

Don't be so blind.  Santangelo is the Dan Quayle of baseball announcers.

Dibble seems sort of Palinish, then.
