I was actually at that game not far away from Strasburg when he was "warming up".  I thought at the time "gee, he looks like he's dragging ass and not really looking like he wants to be here today".  He just didn't seem to be getting ready like in his other starts.  After a couple of minutes he walked away and they announced Miguel "The Poet" Batista was going to pitch that night.  Some guy next to me (that drove down from Rhode Island) was so freaking pissed off and ranting "err ah, this uh, this uuuuuuh this uh would never happen with my Saaaaaaaaaaaawx."

Probably because his shoulder was stiff.  He promptly went on the 10 day DL then, didn't he?

Wait a minute Dibble is saying that he was talking about the July 27th game? So he didn't say anything for a month then thought, oh this is a good time to bring it up because, you know, the kid just blew out his UCL. Dibble's full of crap.

Utter nonsense.

McCatty wouldn't let him pitch. Strasburg *always* wants to pitch. He probably would take the risk right now if someone gave him the chance.

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/07/rob-dibble-still-thinks-steven-strasburg-should-have-sucked-it-up/

Here's more from Dibble:

------------
“And it had nothing to do with the game he got hurt in Philly. He had a sold-out game against the Braves, and the people I worked with at MASN were excellent, we followed his workout regimen — which was fantastic. His warm-up was fantastic. He didn’t do any of that the day that he basically walked away from that Braves start, which was sold-out. And all the money that the Nationals were making per start on Strasburg was well over seven figures. So to me, you know what kid, you’ve got to suck it up.”

Why doesn't Dibs just STFU. He got himself fired by MASN already. Does he want to make himself totally umemployable in media with his incoherent rationale for making incohrent comments?

Let me paraphrase his latest remarks. "Go ahead and risk a once in a lifetime talent becuase you have a sellout."

The first comment on the article speaks for itself: "Joke of a player went on to become joke of a broadcaster."

It's really hard for me to understand how such a bonehead like Dibs can keep a job in media.

The same reason Gilbert Gottfried continues to get work - he brings something to the table.  It may not be what you particularly like or want but he does bring something to the table.

To borrow an expression from NOTLD, he wasn't all gingerbread men, cupcakes, and unicorns.  But he wasn't boring either.

Exactly what did he bring to the table besides his ample mouth?

It's not enough to be opinionated as an analyst. You you have to be articulate, analytical, insightful, thoughtful, and knowledgable. He was NONE of those.

As far as I can tell, the only thing people liked about him is that he ripped the players and so vicariously served as the voice of the frustrated Nats fan. That's not what I look for in an analyst. That's the role of a columnist, blogger, commentators, etc. His job is to, uh, analyze the game on the field.

And the majority of the time he was here the play on the field was crap.  What exactly was he going to analyze?  Desmond's 32nd error?  John Lannan getting lit up for the 10th time that season?  Adam Dunn striking out when the bases are loaded with two outs?

His unrelenting chatter burned me out :20 into the game & now I'm listening to loud music and watching the game with the sound off.

Ted Lerner is going to have to speak with the media and make it clear exactly what went down with Dibble's departure.

Expect it.

That they're paying out his contract?  That's not really something that needs an official statement.

I doubt they're going to make a statement about that.

Bob: [paraphrasing] "Speaking of catchers, we've got a catcher in the minor leagues, Jesus Flores, that idolizes two players.  Pudge Rodriguez and..."

FP: "Me!?"

Bob: "...No."

FP: "...oh :("

 that's the kind of good back and forth that I like in an crew.
