Yeah, I feel like there's a pretty significant gap between LaRoche and the rest of remaining FA 1Bs.

That's one of the main reasons I am not a fan. He just doesn't seem into it. Or at least he didn't use to. Mental problems. Let's hope he has overcome them.

A mental problem that plagues many of the most intelligent people? They need to push hard, Hawpe is done for.

It's ADD, not that big a deal.  It's perfectly controllable.

Then label a good chunk of the MLB "disabled."  There was some research/study done a few years ago that determined baseball players were being diagnosed with A.D.D. at a higher rate than the general population (though this is a bit flawed, as the general population is not solely 20-40 white/hispanic males).  In 2008, there were 106 exemptions given by MLB for the use of Adderall by MLB players.  In 2009, there were 108 or somewhere around 10%.  Given, a handful or more of these players probably have been mis-diagnosed or faux-diagnosed in order to be able to use the drug "to increase concentration", but A.D.D. or similar symptoms of A.D.D. are quite common in the MLB.

The issue is actually gaining steam recently and could become more talked-about over the next few years.

ADD is 100% a learning disability IMO. However, as I mentioned, many a brilliant person suffers from learning disabilities. All I meant to say was that as LaRoche continues to learn to control his ADD, he will improve at the plate and in the field, likely losing the early season slumps.

Oh, of course... I have no doubt in my mind, if he put the effort in, he could be a great player, year round.

If that's the case than SF belongs in a padded room.

If we don't get LaRoche, I wouldn't be surprised if Rizzo tries to trade for Chris Davis.

I know he hasn't done well at the Major League level, but he's still young and he's a decent fielder. We probably wouldn't have to give up too much to get him.

Get LaRoche.
This is the only acceptable solution.

King Diamond?  Yeah, he's the dude that wears the white makeup.  Really the guitarist is named "Andy LaRocque" (well, not even that really, his real name is Anders Allhage)

Count me in as another vote for LaRoche.  I'd give him 3 yrs and 25 million if that's what it would take.  There's nothing in the minor league pipeline that's better than what LaRoche would give (and I think moving Norris there saps a lot of his value as a prospect).

If we don't get LaRoche, Rizzo should just punt on 1st base this year and start Morse and maybe sign Overbay for a year to platoon with him.  Or maybe start Willingham at 1st and platoon Morse and Bernadina in LF.  Either way, if we don't get a solid first baseman, Rizzo probably keeps the Hammer in DC.
