What's the most that's reasonable for LaRoche?  3 yrs 24 million?  2 yrs 18 million?  I might go three years.

I don't want Prince Fielder.  He strikes me as a 300 pound Nyjer Morgan.  Just seems to have a bad attitude.  Also he weighs 300 pounds.

Why not put Mike Morse or Josh Willingham at first for 2011, then go guns ablazing at Albert Pujols in 2012?  I read in the Chicago Tribune that is the reason the Cubs gave Pena a one year deal.  They are expected to go after Pujols.  Why not the Nats?

Pujols will not get to free agency.  He'll get locked up before the season ends.

While nice in theory... if you don't land that big fish... which of course, only one team can... you're left grasping at straws after wasting a year spinning your wheels and waiting for Pujols.

Right now the Yankees are trying to figure out how to squeeze two first basemen into their lineup in 2012. Either that, or they'll call the Nats and say, "you remember how you guys REALLY wanted Teixeira?"

Those numbers are not that far from what it would've taken to keep Dunn, unless you're cheap.

The 'cheap' crowd never ceases to amaze.

So 3/27 for LaRoche is comparable to Dunn's 4/56?  In what world?

You make it sound like LaRoche is going to get 12mill per. Giving him that would be considered in the ballpark and be spun as being cheap.

LaRoche at 9mill per for 2 years is simply smat business. Biit of a downgrade offensively, massive upgrade defensively. For 5mill less per, or 29mill over the course of the deal its a great move.

Personally I hope its only a 2 year deal but we need to get it done.

Someone hasn't done their due diligence.  Dunn could have been kept for 3/42 at the break

Adam LaRoche made $4.5 million last year.  2/12 or 3/18 is more like it.

LoL. Its the same terms. 5mill less per season is a big difference. Its more than 1/3 less annually. Over the course of the deal, it's 15mill. That's a pretty sizeable gap. The overall production(offense and defense) of the 2 isn't anywhere near as large.

I would have loved to have Dunn in between Zim and Werth. It didn't work out that way. LaRoche is a very good replacement, especially at a much smaller rate.

Dunn could have been kept for at least 4/45 earlier in the season or 3/40 instead the Nationals waited too long.

I played against him at a tournament in Miami when I was in high school. He was a friendly enough guy. Cecil was in attendance.

No he couldn't have.

Just like Rizzo didn't offer Pena.

Just like Rizzo contacted Dunn after the season was over.

Just like Rizzo didn't have a deal with the White Sox for Dunn.

Right?

I think Dunn hinted pretty heavily that he would resign here if offered a deal relatively close to his market value.  Boswell mentioned that one player cited the figure 3yrs/40mil.  I think that was in his last chat.

That ship has sailed, though.  LaRoche is probably the best bet now.  After that, maybe Lyle Overbay/Michael Morse.

Everyone else stinks (Loney) or costs too much.
