since when is 40 games (2009 + 2010 in LF) enough of a sample size for UZR?

The burden is on you to prove he sucks.

His stats say he doesn't.

Nats, just offer him a freaking deal he'd take. You know how freak we'd be if he went to a different team? Yeah, lets slot Kotchman at first!

He's pretty stupid if he thinks he can make up 54 HR/159 rbi/139 runs with the rag tag bunch of scrubs we're running out there this year.

Werth should get you half way there, so it's really not that big a stretch

fine, the O's (you know the team that see's him on an everyday basis) think he's a DH

Werth may make up half of it... but every other guy has to meet his numbers from last year + have even better years to just equal what two players put up last year.

Scott says he enjoys DH'ing.

What's to say he didn't ask to move there?

Adam Jones severely regressed last year.

No.

2008 - .270/.311/.400/.711
2009 - .277/.335/.457/.792
2010 - .284/.325/.442/.767

I'd take Adam Jones over Bernadina and Morgan in a heartbeat.

who's to say he's not saving face? If he was any good, you would think the team would play him where they get the most value from him, and defensively, the O's have decided he's most valuable as a DH for the past two seasons

Because they think Pie is the better fielder.

It doesn't mean that Scott sucks. It's not like he's putting up Dunn numbers in the OF. Even if he played all year, at worst, he'd be something like a -8 or -9 fielder. Hardly a lead weight to his overall value. Hell, just from moving to LF from DH would probably equal out the loss in defense, in terms of overall WAR.

At this point I really could care less. I despise the Os because they tried to keep baseball out of DC and am happy that no matter what they trot out, they will never compete with the wallets of the Yankees or Red Sox. They may be better than us, but I'm willing to bet we see the playoffs long before they do

I agree Nats see the playoffs before the O's do.

Doesn't change my original position of the O's fielding the better roster in 2011.

Linty - you win.  Luke Scott is a great LF.  The O's are stupid for not getting someone better at DH so they can sit their regular LF - Felix Pie - who had a .720 OPS last year.

That seems to be what you're arguing.  The O's, in order to make their franchise player Luke Scott happy, play him at DH in order to keep him happy.  That's the other part of what you're arguing.

OK fine - Adam Jones did not improve last season as O's fans expected him to.  Instead, he seemed to tread water at best, while regressing in certain areas.  How was that?

As for taking Jones over Bernie and Morgan, yeah I probably would too.  But there is a good chance both Bernie and Morgan outplay Jones this season.  Jones has almost as much to prove this season as Bernie and Morgan.

I'd still take Jones.  Already has a "Gold Glove" and is five years younger than Nyjer.  Bernadina I'd LOVE to see have a breakout 800 OPS season but I just don't see it happening.  I'd even take a 400 OBP from him in 2011.  Morgan, I can't wait to see "Non-Tendered" in the transactions.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/01/alternatives-for-adam-laroche.html

Article that discusses options for LaRoche if he doesn't come to DC.  It mentions the Rays, Rangers, Padres, Mariners, and Braves.

The only real option there that I see there is the Rays.  If the Rays are offering 1 yr and 5 mil and we're offering 2 yrs at 6 mil per year, LaRoche might choose the Rays.

If we don't get LaRoche, then I honestly have no clue what Rizzo is doing.  Even now, I don't really understand what Rizzo is doing.  I understand Pena wanting to go to the Cubs, but didn't he have a better backup plan other than allowing the market to dry up for 1b?

Yeah, I hope that Rizzo is calling JCA for tips on which first base prospect to trade for.

Well Jayson Werth doesn't fall into any of those categories.
