I don't think people had that much of a problem with that trade. It was the trade that netted us a garbage 23 year old reliever getting pounded in the Sally league and a 25 year old who is recovering from TJ.
Beimel has a 4.91 ERA with the Rockies. He is a bum. Zero value. Was not going to be back next year.

the fact that we got two live bodies for him is a miracle.

Fabian has a 2.08 ERA since being traded to the Nats.

Fabian is a bigger bum than Beimel. He is 23 years old and still stuck in the Sally League. He won't ever amount to anything.

likely not but we'll see.

age is not as important for relievers as it is for starters.

Fabian had been a starter in the past so he is just now getting his feet wet as a reliever. He has a mid 90s fastball so I wouldn't count him out yet. He has plenty of time to develop into a solid reliever even though that is a long shot.

still, even if he doesn't amount to anything we didn't give up anything either. I'd rather take the chance on guys like Mattheus and Fabian than not get anything at all.

Age doesn't matter for relievers when its your boys, but when it's Adam Carr or Chris Rivera, age matters. Either say that age matters or it doesn't matter. Not this in between carousel where you can't make up your mind.

Adam Carr and Chris Rivera have sucked and show no signs of ever amounting to everything. career minor leaguers

since when is 23 old? :lmao:

Carr and Rivera are 25. If Fabian is still in Hagerstown 2 years from now I will admit that I was wrong.

that's just not true. people on here were very critical of the NJ trade.

the Beimel trade just doesn't bother me because we didn't give up anything.

that's because Florida offered us TWO pitcher for NJ, and Rizzo bluffed his way into having to settle for only 1.

nobody thinking rationally(rather than emotionally) had a problem with trading NJ, but we could have gotten more back for him than we did.

a major gaffe for Rizzo.

that is just a rumor.

and anyways, the guy that they were thinking of including in the trade (Ryan Tucker) is on the DL AGAIN and hasn't pitched in several weeks.

Tucker can't stay on the field long enough to amount to anything.

Rizzo did right. huge props

what's really odd is that Tucker's last start was on July 30th, the day before the trade deadline. It's like the Marlins knew he was injured and were trying to dupe the Nats into trading for him instead of Aaron Thompson.

even so, we could have gotten better players for NJ had we traded him earlier, before the other contenders started acquiring First Basemen.

NJ needed to be traded, I just disagree with the execution of the trade. I think Rizzo could have done better.

Only by people who felt a nostalgic attachment to NJ and thought he was the long term solution at 1B and should be signed for a couple more years. Besides, most of those aren't even regular posters.

I wanted him re-signed at one point, but with distance, I've reconsidered. His power outage is extreme. Dunn is a pretty ok solution at 1B. Also, they can still re-sign him. He's a FA-to-be.

I liked the trade from the start, and we got the pitcher Rizzo wanted, the other guy was a smoke screen.

Nick's now expected to be put on the 15 day DL.

Also, Jamie Carroll getting the start in right field for the Indians.

The only thing shocking about that is that it took so long to happen.

Well, I STILL think we should resign him and I'm the 6th most regular poster here!  I'm 87 posts behind "The Chief" for 5th so he's in my crosshairs.

My position wasn't nostalgic, it was need and Dunn's performance has just reinforced my belief that we should resign him.  We know he's likely to get hurt and Dunn's performance has shown that he's, at least, adequate at first base to fillin for Nick WHEN he gets hurt.  Nick's on-base numbers are hard to beat and they're consistent, which is something this lineup badly needs.

As long as we don't spend very much money on him and don't sign him for longer than two year, hopefully Marrero will be ready by then.

Chris Carter to the Mets for Billy Wagner. I have a feel he's going to punish the Nats. He was on the team for like 2 seconds before being flipped.

Wow. I got to see the first - it was an awesome moment, they were losing by 1 with a runner on in the bottom of the 10th or 11th at the time.

He instantly makes Dunn the second worst defensive first baseman in the division.

So wait, the Mets sent away Billy Wagner, an MLB player for Chris Carter, the creator of the X-Files?

Former Nat tough guy Jose Guillen beats up a former Met, http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090827&content_id=6654524&vkey=news_kc&fext=.jsp&c_id=kc&partnerId=rss_kc. It's no coincidence that everything associated with the Mets is losing these days.
