I said Speigner deserved a call-up because he was dominating in AAA. He got his chance and blew it. Never said he was a god.

PS: Speigner has a 3.45 ERA in 44.1 IP of relief for the AAA Zephyrs this season. 8)

oh yeah and speigner also has a career era of 9.19 in the majors!

so what shell pitched well in the minors and was deserving of a call-up.  gotta be both ways with this crap man.

I'm sure the teams will be lining up to sign him.  Strasburg-type dollars, I'm thinking.   :icon_mrgreen:

Honestly though, does he think somebody would want him?  The simple fact that we signed him shows how disfunctional this team is, more than anything, signing someone that no one else wants.

According to the Tacoma Rainers' official Twitter account, infielder Alex Cintron has signed a minor league contract with the Mariners.

Cintron was designated for assignment on May 20 by the Nationals after going 2-for-26 to start the season.  He'll try to work his way up to the big leagues once again.  The 30-year-old has a .275/.313/.394 career batting line.

I think this can go here.  From the Chicago Tribune.  Not sure why the Trib has it, but they do.

ST. LOUIS -- Manny Acta, the highly respected manager just kicked to the curb by the Nationals, won't be without work for long. He was a longtime manager in Houston's minor-league system and could be joining the Astros' coaching staff as a bench coach. This would be a sensitive move as Cecil Cooper is not as secure as Houston's 44-44 record would suggest. ...

I don't see what's inaccurate about that.

Acta really is highly respected in baseball circles.

and regardless of the fact that it was the right move only 2 months too late...we DID kick him to the curb.

I didn't say it was inaccurate - although claims such as "highly respected" are always highly subjective - I said it was biased.

GM was still making cars (that nobody wants) even while they were in bankruptcy. I'm not a lawyer so I'll leave the various distinctions to the experts but there are different types (chapters) of bankruptcy. Some are such that all recognize that the company will emerge from bankruptcy in some new manner, just as we saw with GM and will likely see with the Cubs.

yeah, as I understand it..the Tribune bankruptcy is only being done to make the sale of the Cubs go faster.

how, I don't know.

Mets Ready To Release Redding?
By Mike Axisa [July 18, 2009 at 10:08am CST]

Adam Rubin of The NY Daily News spoke to a source who indicated that the Mets were ready to release righthander Tim Redding and eat what's left on the one year, $2.25MM deal he signed this winter. Redding has been dreadful for the Amazin's, allowing 86 baserunners and pitching to a 7.22 ERA in 52.1 IP this year.
