Then there was the day the plumbing failed in our office on Patriots day.  We were told to go home when you could not hold it in anymore. I [kid] you not.

Sox down 1-0 after the top of the first.  At least they held the Rays under 10.  I think we can come back.

Weird fact - both leadoff hitters got on and both Crawford and Pedroia bunted them over.  Pedey was bunting for a hit, and I think Crawfor was as well.

Fly to left - how does V-Mart not hit the wall?  Every fly to left hits the wall.

Youk is up. I'm wearing his shirt. Not one he actually ever owned.  Just one with his name and number.  I wonder, in the interest of Earth Day, how much ink could be saved if they just printed "Youk!" instead of Youkilis?

Jeff Niemann pitching.  Remember when people were saying, grab him, they have Hammel.

Foul tip strike three.

Now that is game threading.

Lackey throwing to Pena. Pena is a local - Haverhill, MA and northeastern.  Hit a homer in 2006 after his call up, then released.  MiLFA contract with the Rays.  The Nats signed Dmitri instead.

Pena singles to right.  Odd for a 3 true outcomes hitter.  He was tempted to keep jogging around the bases because he hit a ball fair and it was not an out.

BJ Upton - remember when he was on the trade block?  Tries to bunt.  Remy makes the astute observation that it must be National Bunt Day.  I think you celebrate it by bringing a gun to Gravelly Point.  Upton flies to the warning tack to Hermida.  Somewhere, NatsAddict is saying "he would have never caught it if he were still with the Marlins.

Pat the Bat goes opposite field and Pena moves to 3d. Which is the bigger surprise?

Reid Brignac tries a safety squeeze. Misses. But that is why it is a safety.

Lackey staring with his mouth open at a ball call.  Of course, his mouth is always open.  Beltre to Pedroia to Youk for the DP.  1- 0 after 1.5.

Big Pop-up at bat.  Grounds to Pena.  Wonder if the Sox sign Pena next eyar if they can't deal for A-Gon?

Belte up. Swing and miss. He's got something against balls.  Dribbles a single by Bartlett.

JD Drew tries to bunt.  This is AL East ball?  I suppose if you are 2 for 26, and you see Longoria back.  Remy and Orsillo gabbing about pitchers who are 6'9" or more - amazed Rauch is 6'11".  Drew walks.  Niemann ashamed.

Billy Hall up, playing for Cameron who is still bothered by his kidney stone and a tough righty.  Hall is interesting - he actually has a negative number for luxury tax purposes since the cash that accompanied him when Milwaukee sent him to Seattle and then to Boston is more than his AAV.  Foul pop to Pena.

Hermida up. 0-2 quickly. NatsAddict is sensing this even though he is not watching.   Ugly swing on a low breaking ball. Or should I say an Uggla swing?  Sox strand 2.  3 LOB in two innings, 2 in scoring position.

Lackey is definitely a mouth breather.
He may be a mouth breather, but he is one that is getting paid $82.5M to breathe that way over the next 5 years to do so (and to pitch).

Dioner Navarro Ks.  Talk about a one season wonder.  Tough, because I had Shawn Riggans on my fantasy team.

Oh my f'ng word.  Hermida plays matador with a single that takes a 1 hop by him. Bartlett on second.

Crawford up.  Singles by Pedroia but Bartlett held at 3d.  Can we have Navarro up again?

Mixed emotion time for me. Zobrist up, my fantasy keeper.  $5 last year.

Lackey is my AL Cy Young pick.

Offense let him down the first game... today, he's not pitching that well.

Lackey gets the obligatory 3-0 call on a high outside pitch, then gets a belt high strike called on a ball outside.  3-2, foul. Unbelievable 3 strike called on another outside pitch. this a curve.  Zobrist tried to show up the ump and he did not like the start to flip a bat trick.

Longoria double one hops the wall- 3-0.  Darn. If there was going to be a double, why not Zo?

Pena again.  Yesterday he crushed one to dead center.  Lackey 50 pitches and not out of the 3d yet.  Brush back at Pena's head.  2 & 2.  I'm thinking it's the new hat I bought. Went with the "Hanging Sox" design.  they are 1-5 since then.  Full count, Pena hits a deep foul down the RF line.  That's where he got his homer in 2006.  Walk.  3 true outcomes.  Ump decides the pitch he called strikes on Zobrist are now strikes.

Upton, 3 run HR to the bullpen.  A CF with a better jump might have gotten it, but it was 390 feet. Hall hits the fence hard.  6-0.

Course record for Robert Cheruiyot.  No, not that Robert Cheruiyot, another Robert Cheruiyot from Kenya.  At least the Molinas had the decency to come up with different first names.  GiDP by Martinez.  6-0 after 3.

brignac double.  Lead runner on for rays all 4 innings so far.  Double was to right center, drew can't cut it off on a dive.  Navarro hits back up the box to Lackey, Lackey tries to check the runner, but he is left with his mouth open as Brignac takes 3d.  Navarro out.

Bartlett flies off the wall in Left center, gets by Hall on a misplay, Bartlett to 3d.  Starter is knocked out after giving up 7 runs. Where have I heard that recently?  At least the Nats were >.500 when it happened.

New pitcher is Scott Atchison, returning home from 2 years in Japan. HE's big in Japan.  Who sang that?

Hall gets derisive cheer when he catches deep fly from Crawford that scores Bartlett.  Damn! wanted Zobrist up with a guy on 3d.  If you are going to lose, you want your fantasy guy to do well.  Zo is hacking at everything, Ks.

Burrito is hot, but my Red Sox are not.  Telling trivia - Sox hitless in last 27 ABs with runners in scoring position.  That's a perfect game.

Big Pop Up walks. Asks for directions to first.

Used to be, this game would start at 11, the Marathon at 12, and you would catch the whole game, walk over to Kenmore Square, and see the lead runners come through.  Now, the Marathon starts early - 10 AM for main field - and with games running long, the Marathon winner comes in in the 3d or 4th inning.  But it is cool to have shots during the gaem of the non-elite runners going through Kenmore and the fans on the route cheering.

2 outs, runner on 1st, Drew hits one down the RF line, but fan reaches for it to hold it to a ground rule double.

Hall is the bigger goat today, but they reversed the error call on Bartlett's fly to save his pride and punish Lackey's era. Goat flies out with runners on 2d and 3d.  Not only do the Nats have a better record than the Sox, they even lose with more fight.

Ugh, Lackey probably just cost me ERA and WHIP in this week's fantasy matchup.  Horrible performance.

1-2-3 inning for Atchison.  He has an interesting story. Apparently, his son was diagnosed with some sort of bone disorder last year, so he gave up his career in Japan for an invite and a chance to make a team in the US.  Sox had signed him before he went to Japan but let him go and tracked him.  He got the minor league contract and invite, and ended up beating out Bonser (DL), Embree, and a few other guys with time in the majors for the last slot in the bullpen.

They just showed a replay of one of the more disgraceful episodes on a Patriots Day - Pizzagate.  A guy in the 3d base boxes down the line threw a slice of cheese pizza at Garret Anderson when he went for a foul.  Arrested the thug.  Never waste a good slice of pizza on a guy with less than a .330 OBP.

Pat the Bat flies off the wall. Hermida throws him out going into 2d.  Another fly to Hermida and Atchison has another scoreless inning.

Hermida actually looks like a good signing.  They are trying to find him times at bat v RHP.  Looks like a steal.
