Give me a reason why I should believe this team will lose less than 100 games?
There is no reason considering what we have seen on the baseball field thus far. The pitching is absolutely embarrassing and the hitting is spotty.

Yep if you ignore the fact that todays pitching staff was all non-roster invitees, a starter moving to the bullpen (in AAA), and Tyler Clipard.
What has me more concerned is that we had nearly our #1 lineup and could only put up two runs (so far).

I'm amazed at the difference in attitude between the off-season ( :az: Rizzo) and one week into spring training ( :hang: :hang: :hang:).

Looks like Clippard struck out the side in his inning of work.

I laughed when I saw the pitching staff for todays game because it is all guys that really shouldn't make the team and Tyler Clippard, and because of this I knew what this boards reaction would be. I expect this game was where they really wanted to see if any of these NRIs deserved to stick around. Out of this bunch today anyone not named Tyler Clippard will be riding the bus in the minors or looking for a job in the indy leagues come openning day.

How long did they play? I don't think we have a single position battle to speak of (even though SS should be one). We have a lot of guys fighting for a couple bench spots and I think they want to see a lot of them. When is the first round of cuts anyway. I expect we start doing better once some of this fat gets trimmed.

What's funny is it's not the "fat" and bums that are killing us. It's everyone. Most of the guys who are going to be on the 25 man roster have been woeful.

So much for Olsen being guaranteed #3 spot. He's garbage but anyone who watched him last year already knew as much. Dump him before the season starts so you don't have to pay him the full salary.

washingnats: So far, the #Nats pitchers have allowed 67 runs on 91 hits in six games.

Giving up 11.17 runs and 15.17 hits per game.

:lmao: Charlie Slowes is the man.

With obvious bias here, I believe Charlie to be one of the best in the business.

English followed by Slaten. NOTLD just fainted.

Looks like most got 3 AB's.

In 2005 pitching was far better than hitting
In 2006 I remember them both being pretty bad but hitting having a slight edge or maybe I should look this one up
In 2007 We had no offense and Mike Bacsik pitched a good part of the year. I call it a draw.
In 2008 I don't even want to think about it
In 2009 The offense was fun to watch, but the bullpen was beyond terrible and the starting wasn't anything special either

I don't think there is a real trend with this team other than a steady decline and then a head first dive off a cliff. so as horrid as it sounds I am actually going to say the pitching will be better than the hitting this season. God help us all if I am right.

Guardado gave up 4 runs, but because only 1 was "earned", his ERA dropped to 18.00.

On our staff that would seem to constitute progress.

So what I gathered form today's game:

1) The pitchers who we knew were crap to begin with (excluding Clip, and possibly an early outing for Olsen after shoulder injury) alievated all doubt that they are anything more than that.

2) Just like we already know pitchers are ahead of batters at this point in the spring, yeah our almost opening day lineup only put up a couple runs but they will get things going. Offense wasn't our problem last year, and it won't be this year. Just imagine how good we would do if our guys faced some of the crap we threw out there today.

Back away from the edge everyone, it's only the 1st week of games. Early spring training doesn't mean crap, if we are getting pounded like this in late March then it might be time to panic. Give them time to weed out the scrubs/AAAA fodder and let those who will really compete for spots get some considerable PT this spring.

I just wish we could get rid of Guz before the year starts. The man is a cancer and his sub .310 OBP just isn't right for the 2 spot.

I hate the fact that Riggs has already penciled him in for that spot.

You still like him better than Guzman, check my sig.

Jesse English was the best pitcher today.

WTF! Everyone is acting like sportsfan and making season long determinations like it's already July and the season is over before it even begins! We haven't even played double digit ST games for goodness sake!

You better hope your girl doesn't use a similar measuring stick, she might extrapolate as you have and assume you're always going to be a failure :?

Don't jump to conclusions, the umpires are huddled watching a replay, the post may yet be reversed upon further review.

Up yours nancy-boy. But seriously, I had to post that. I can't believe the mentality that has some people already crucifying the team and making doomsday predictions on a season that is four weeks away from Opening Day. But then again, maybe I shouldn't be so shocked since this has happened here in the past.
