Alex Gordon had it too.  It's taken him a bit longer to return to form.

I've had Gordon 2 of the last 3 years on my fantasy team, doesn't one need to first achieve "form" before they can return to it?

He's the Ryan Leaf of MLB.

Lol, no he's not.  He was starting to play well at the end of the year before last and then missed the first couple of months recovering from surgery last year and never really got going.  This will be a big year for him.  He's still got a couple of years before he gets to FA, I believe, so he's still got some time to prove himself.

He hit .232 with 6 HRs in 49 games last year, remember that he was the #2 overall pick in 2005.   Sorry, no matter what anyone says I'm never drafting him again. :-)

Right, torn labrum ( see - Alex Rodriguez).

If A-Rod's the model, it shouldn't have any long term consequences.

Only Rodriguez plays 3B and Detwiler pitches...  :?

And as far as we know, Ross is natural. :-)

Tom has an interesting post from Christina Karl on the Wang Wire thread that also discusses the Taveras, Duncan, and Mench signings.

Thanks, I deliberated splitting it up into the various components, but then the US - Canada game got me distracted in a good way.

That's a solid offer to Chan Ho. But the Yankees won the Series.

Buster_ESPN: Heck of a bargain for the NYY to sign Chan Ho Park at $1.2 million. He turned down $3.25 mil. and a 1-year deal from PHI early in offseason.

pretty smart :lmao:

I wonder if he's factoring in his playoff share into the deal?

He would have to be counting on 7 or 8 full shares if that was the case.

glad to see we are trying to add another vet.  I'd like to see us sign Washburn to a one year bargain deal

I think Washburn would be terrible for us.  Heavy flyball tendencies don't work as well in Nats Park as they do in Safeco.

I'd rather use Smoltz as a stopgap while we wait for Detwiler and Wang to get healthy.  We could move him back to the bullpen when we need to make room.

Washburn has been the one higher profile pitcher that I have wanted the Nats to stick away from the most.  I used to be a fan of his when he was with the Angels, but I don't see last year's Safeco-influenced 1st half in front of the best OF defense as being a good predictor of how he would do in an honest ballpark.  If you think this park slightly disadvantages RH power and if you think Nyjer is the NL's version of Death to Flying Things, then he might be average here.  But at some point, we do have to stop with the filler and continue to see if someone emerges from the 6 or so candiadtes for the 4th and 5th spot.  I would still rather take a flier on a Smoltz or a Pedro dice roll.  Portfolio theory.

Even the LAC'ers can't expect Smoltz to get $10 million, right? Who buys a $50 burger?

WTF does that have to do with anything?  You're becoming a self-caricature with this obsessive anti-LAC nonsense.  It's like bizarro hammondsnats from last year.

Smoltz made somewhere around $10M last season. I think that Smoltz' agents are marketing him ala Roger Clemens.

Rumors are he's asking for at least that much, which is why the team isn't talking with his agents.

I want Smoltz, too. I wanted him 2 years ago before he re'upped with Atlanta. But for $10 million you could get a much better pitcher, to be frank.

Who are you figuring to be the 3rd? Without going back into the 25 man roster thread would it be Stammen or Olsen?

Stammen, according to ASSCLOWN's Twitter connections.

I think it's great that after the pitchers report, run a few calisthentics, run around the outfield a while and throw a few dozen soft tosses, that the Nats are able to designate Stammen as the winner of the #3 rotation job.

Or, could it be that Ladson's twitter response to ASSCLOWN was merely his guess, as opposed to relaying a conclusive decision on the part of the club?
