I just don't want Guzman on the team.

He sulks if he hits anywhere lower than second, and he's already having a fit about moving to second base.

Seems like a cancer to me.

I don't think moving Guzman to 2nd is the right move.

we should sign or trade for a second baseman. keep Guzman at SS if you don't believe Desmond is ready. if you do, then get rid of Guzman.

I don't think Guzman is a cancer. I think he's been a pretty stand up guy. The only thing I've heard in the press is that he was "shocked" when approached by Rizzo / Riggs about move to 2b. That's not exactly a malcontent's track record. He isn't responsible for his silly contract. Given where they are in their careers, I don't see Hudson as much of an upgrade over Guzman.

I can't wait until its Espinosa at SS and Desmond at 2b...great range, arms, and solid bats in both positions if Desmond is the real deal b/c I'm confident that Espinoza is going to be a high quality shortstop when he arrives.

Catcher Ivan Rodriguez and right-hander Jason Marquis already have signed free-agent contracts with the club, and left-handed reliever Eddie Guardado is on the verge of an agreement.

The Nats still want to add another starting pitcher and free-agent second baseman Orlando Hudson, who would further strengthen their defense.

By continuing to add pitching, one Nats official said, the team can avoid rushing its top young arms – most notably right-handers Stephen Strasburg and Drew Storen, both of whom were first-round draft picks in 2009.

“If you keep them in the minors until September, you know that you will have done well in December,” the official said

For those who can break it down better than I can, what's the difference between DeRosa and Hudson? I know DeRosa is a bit more versatile but the numbers say Hudson is a slightly better player, especially at the 2B spot. I had always thought that DeRosa was the better player, but I could be wrong there. Of the remaining FA's yet unsigned, those two seem to be the best options and I haven't heard us connected to DeRosa at all.

Capps attracted interest from 16 clubs upon becoming a free agent 10 days ago. He narrowed his list of finalists to the Nationals and Chicago Cubs, and is expected to make his decision official Wednesday night.

Capps, 26, amassed 66 saves from 2007 through 2009 in Pittsburgh. But the right-hander's ERA spiked from 3.02 to 5.80 last season.

Washington is in desperate need of an upgrade to a bullpen that posted a 24-39 record and ranked last in the majors with a 5.09 ERA last season.

Man, I get back from a day-long road trip to Houston thinking Capps will fake us out and go to Chicago Teix-style and bam!, Buster Olney thinks that he's closing in on a deal with us! Sweet!

I'm shocked by the one year deal if this report is true, but I like it. If last season wasn't an aberration, I don't want to be stuck with him for 2 years (Storen should be more than ready next season anyway). If he returns to his old form, they can try to lock him up mid season, or possibly trade him toward the deadline when teams are desperate for relief help.

I think this report is off though. I think he'll get a 2 year deal.

I think if it's a one-year deal, this was the Nats doing.
What happens if Capps can't return to form? He's without a job in 2011. I doubt him and his agent want to take that risk, when he could have had guaranteed money.
