Haven't read article, but as I've said all along, he should have repeated AA. Lefties were eating him for lunch in AA. Not much has changed since.

Not saying anything that everyone doesn't already know, but Harper has always been a slow starter. He'll probably start mashing soon enough.

Not specific to Harper's case, but trends like "always a slow starter" never last, the player either reverses the trend or a slow start leads to a slow season.

he just means that at every level, Harper starts slow and then starts tearing it up

This may be true on a wide scale, but there are cases (like Zimmerman) where players just like the warmer weather.

Zimmm is a perfect example of what I was referring too, early in his career he was a slow starter but that did not hold true.

I also thought he should go back to Harrisburg.Batting .256 is not quite tearing it up. Though the thinking could have been he was very successful in the AFL and that merited a promotion.

Harper overmatched so far in AAA:

.220/.256/.341, 0 HRs 1 RBI.

I'm sure he'll catch on at some point but he is a long ways away from a call up.

Harper always looks overmatched for the first month, then begins adjusting. He'll struggle for a few more weeks, then start performing well. But it might be good for his development to let him play through the summer at AAA, so he can achieve consistent quality over a period of several months instead of getting promoted the moment he goes on a tear.

1-4 yesterday with a double.

1-5 today with his 3rd double, scored 2 runs.

No need to panic.

my point was i think he'll do fine at AAA, there's no need to push him back to AA.

I just want the sf882s of the world to be prepared for his brutal first month in DC instead of demanding he get sent to the minors after every strikeout.

it won't be a month. i think it's more like 2-3 weeks before he heats up when exposed to a new level

yeah, as much as I had hoped we'd see in him a month or two it's probably more realistic that he's a September call-up and then competes for a starting spot next year.

he looks like he's starting to come around. He now has a 5 game hitting streak and is 6-22 with 3 extra base hits over that span

If he keeps improving, then call him up at the end of July. August is a big month, and, crazy me, i'm starting to imagine the Nats in post-season baseball.

Harper's splits at this very early stage in the season (i.e. SSS):

vs RHP: .300/.323/.467 (31 PA)
vs LHP: .158/.200/.211 (20 PA)

Also 3 fielding errors through 12 games.

Platoon him in LF with Lombo!

I thought FP made a good point yesterday when he said Harper is facing some real vets in AAA - the AAAA guys who can't cut it in the majors and spend a career shuttling between MLB and AAA. The lefties he's facing are probably mostly junkball pitchers who have a ton of playing experience. Harper is still only 19, so he'll adjust and be fine soon enough.
