I'm not sure any prospect ever has been projected to hit .300 and 45 homers.

No, because you look like a fool if you go out on a limb like that.  As a result, there's a conservative bias in projecting the top shelf prospects, better to undershoot a bit.

I always wonder why he's called the best prospect of all time, then many people project him to be a .275 guy with 35 home runs. That's essentially Adam Dunn.

I know he's got work to to do live up to it all, but personally, .275 with 35 bombs is a bit of a disappointment.

Worst post ever.

Worst post ever.

Thanks. Because yours was so enlightening.

If Harper is Adam Dunn with defense, he's a disappointment. That's simply a fact of the situation.

When you are hyped as the best prospect ever, the best power prospect ever .... To then only hit .275 with 30 home runs is a disappointment. That doesn't mean he isn't a productive player with those type of numbers. But it means he didnt live up to expectations.

btw, there have been people that said he does have the power to hit 50 bombs a year. So its not some random projection that I am the first one to make, but saying he should get into the 40's on bombs yearly. I may have been a bit over the top with the actual number of home runs. If he hits between 30 and 40 yearly, certainly, thats big time power. Im more taking issue with only projecting him to hit .275. He absolutely should hit better than that.

Yeah, but you'd take that from Michael Morse or maybe even Jayson Werth. You wouldn't take that from "the greatest prospect in baseball history."

I'll dream about Harper batting .295 with 50 homers.

oh on that note why not .495 with 83 homers a year

I said "dream," not "expect."

But yeah, that seems reasonable. ;)

.330 / .410 / .485 with 35-40 HRs for a good 7-10 years would be nice.  Basically I want Hamilton plus 10-20%.

fair enough.

He's often been compared to Mantle, as well as considered to have prodigious power.    Look at Mantle's slugging - career .557 but that was weighted down by some bad late years.  Mantle also slugged like a maniac between the ages of 23 and 32:

The biggest plus Harper has is his power, its better than anyone the scouts have seen. Maybe his bat speed and coordination doesnt lead to 50 home runs, but a ton of doubles, and with his speed, triples. I'd be ok with that. Like Mantle, huge SLG

Of course, I'd also be "okay" with 50 home runs in each of his Nationals seasons.

I'd take 40 for his rookie year, but he would need to hit .320 for the season.

So you're okay with him staying down til September?

Harper average draft position is 222 on mock draft central's site, 58th among OFs, just behind Boesch and Rios but ahead of Lorenzo Cain.

Seriously? Behind Alex Rios? Guess they're not keeper leagues.

Woah! That's wild! After the social media meeting, that's crazy. He was just telling reporters how much he liked interacting with his fans. Too damn bad I guess, that's very interesting.

Do you all see Harper staying with the Nats IF we win a world series before the end of his contract, which I personally think will be the minimum requirement to peak his continual interest? I think he'll bail for the yankees the first chance he gets.

What about Strasburg? I think his loyalty lies with the money and he may stay with Washington if we pay him the best offer.
