Guzman made an All Star Game beating out slap hits to the infield.

you guys realize what is going on here, right?  Harper realizes that his best path to the majors is as a CF with a high OBP who can hit leadoff, so that's what he is trying to become.

Yes, sir. Will probably be one of the first post on Wednesday night.

Saw your post, thanks for that, nothing really must have this year.

Got my Harper/Jack Daniels shirt today, literally perfect timing, I was walking out the door heading to my ticket draft when it arrived.  It was quite popular, although it was mentioned that associating an under age Mormon with alcohol is pushing the limits of good taste.

NotLD Tweeted this morning that he is resolving an issue with Cafe Press over his Harper shirt design.  Glad I bought mine the first day it was available.

Ha!  Well, Davey does have him in CF tonight, and it might be a sign of things to come.

If Morse does move back to 1B later this season, we may have to find a LF, instead of a CF.  Although he did temper the following remarks somewhat, here's some of what Johnson told Kilgore:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/post/bryce-harper-playing-center-field-for-the-nationals-tonight/2012/03/14/gIQAuOTYCS_blog.html

“It still goes back to what the needs of this ball club are,” Johnson said. “It’s not about Bryce Harper, where he needs to play. It’s about the team. Basically, the center field position, I’m looking at other options.

...

If Harper does not begin the year in the majors, which is highly likely, then Werth could start the season in right field and move to center. That is another reason Johnson wants to watch Harper in center. It is possible, he figures, the Nationals would be better off with Harper in center and Werth in right.

“When you move a player,” Johnson said, “are you weakening two positions rather than one?”

Respect is going to be the issue with Harper. Not because of his contract, not because of Schmidt, not because he's just 19—but because he plays baseball like he doesn't care about anything other than making sure someone else loses. After batting away my questions with Boras-trained noncommittals, he lights up when I ask him what he misses about being a "kid." "Playing football," he says. "I'm getting chills just thinking about it. That first knock of the game, you are going on kickoff and you are just trying to smack somebody just as hard as you can. That's how I play baseball. I want to hit you. I want to run your ass over. Sorry."

This kid is freaking awesome.

Back in the cage, Harper looks at his hand, and I wonder if a montage of World Series trophies and an endless self-replenishing supply of Annie Savoys is flashing past his eyes.

At least we can put to bed whether or not blowing a kiss at the pitcher was anything other than an FU.

Harper on his home-run kiss while at Hagerstown: “It was an ‘eff you’ from the mouth.”

As for the article, for whatever reason, I absolutely loved it. Zimm doesn't seem to have that killer instinct, neither does Werth or anyone else on the team. Need more guys that HAVE TO win.

Having said that, I'd REALLY like to see Harper get the ball out of the infield at least once this ST.

Give him a few more days to adjust and then the circus will be in town. He's going to start hitting pops all over the place and Davy will say "We have our centerfielder".

i have a friend who's son played with harper, they all loved him.  He's competitive, but from what everyone says he's a really great guy to play with.  He'll grow up and be just fine (as long as he stays away from the drugs).

Florida Scouting Notes - Kevin Goldstein, BP

The Good

Bryce Harper, OF, Nationals
He's arguably the most hyped prospect in the history of the game, and while a strained left calf has left him sidelined for a bit, there is still plenty of talk that manager Davey Johnson wants to break camp with the 19-year-old prodigy in the big leagues. When scouts see Harper, they want to talk about him, and one American League scout says that while he's great, he wonders just how unique a player he is. “Look, I have no issues with the guy at all, but he's going to be a .290 hitter with 35-40 home runs, and, while that's awesome, there are probably 10 or so players capable of that, and I find the potential of a guy like Mike Trout or Jurickson Profar more unique.” As far as Harper's readiness, a National League scouting official agreed that Harper could put up MVP-type numbers, but he's not quite ready to do that yet. “He's 19, he's still going to get bigger and stronger, so for now he's kind of like a young puppy,” he explained. “He'll kind of fall down at times when he knows what he wants to do but just can't do it yet.”

If you could get that kind of pop out of a CF, so you could bring on another bat for the 3d outfield position, then it'd be drool-worthy.

How can that scout put Trout or Profa as more unique?  Unless he works for the Rangers or Angels, then I'm not buying it.
