Less than 2 weeks until me and my mom head to DC... we're seeing the Friday and Saturday games against the Blue Jays. On pace to see Stammen on Friday (maybe Olsen if he comes back), and Zimnn on Saturday (excited for this one). Any pieces of advice on other stuff to do in DC?

I'll be there. Unfortunately, I have been a Chelsea fan since I went to a game at Stamford Bridge when I was 10 (I mostly follow Serie A though, Fiorentina FTW). It should be a treat.

I will be at tomorrow's game with my brother. We will be watching the scoreboard for draft updates throughout the night.

Wanted to get my 2 cents in before the other bozos do

Lunch at the Native American Museum
My favorite is the Hirshhorn, but I'm guessing you'd appreciate Air and Space more than modern art. The one by Dulles has a space shuttle, concord, WWII planes. It's incredible.
WWII memorial is timely and amazing.
Dinner in Adams Morgan if you like world cuisine (there's an Eritrean place just outside at Florida Ave that is excellent)
Walking around the Mall in the evening - it's so beautiful, but stay in well lit areas.
If you have a car: Mt Vernon, Manassas Battlefield, etc.
The Post has a going out guide every weekend online that lists all the special events. There's often really fun street festivals.

Maybe we should make a sticky thread about what to do in DC, maybe in the Red Loft?

I actually went to DC on a school trip last year (saw Nats Park from the outside). I've already been to the Native American Museum for lunch, it was OK. We won't be able to go out for dinner, we arrive Friday morning... we've got the day, and then going to the park for the night game. Probably will chill after the game. Same for Saturday, and then we leave Sunday morning. Thanks for the advice though, I'll check out the other stuff.

The Native American Museum sucks and is nothing but a waste of time dude. Don't even bother going.

What a nancy-boy! Besides, that advice would not have worked back in HS when we used to take chicks to the Mall for some quick dome around the monuments.

Walking the mall at night is my favorite. But you have to have common sense.

Plus there was that gang of muggers that was hanging around the Mall a couple years ago

The Native American musuem is boring and empty but the cafeteria serves authentic food that many people enjoy.

I didn't even check out the cafeteria. That place was so poop I left pissed off. Then we went back to give it a second shot just to be fair and it was definitely the worst "museum" I've ever been to. It's just a place for people to sell you some of their crap.

If you can get a chance to the theatre scene has some great shows coming up. I recommend King Lear at the Shakespeare. Bob Falls is directing and he put up a critically acclaimed version of Lear in Chicago a few years ago. Stacy Keach is coming to town to play the title role.

I haven't seen the play yet, but Tom Stoppard (who is my favorite playwright) has a new show out called "Rock and Roll" that is supposed to be extremely good. It's playing at the Studio Theatre and the director (Joy Zinoman) is extremely good with Stoppard. Should be a great show.

Right now they are extended for a second time through the 21st. Usually they don't keep extending unless the ticket sales are through the roof.

Both houses do weekend matinees, but you'd have to check specific schedules.

Allocate at least 3 hours for this place, it's well worth it. That and the Air and Space Annex next to Dulles topped off by a nice dinner will make for a memorable day. Forget the rest.

Let me know if you want any dinner recommendations.

sadly not, we've got a lot of uptight people here lol (northeastern attitude). yeah, i'd love to go out to dinner but we've got 2 nats games on the agenda. any of those places good for lunch though?

Ah, I thought you were only going to the Friday night game. In that case, I'd hit the Spy Museum during the morning and on the drive out to Dulles to the Air and Space Annex, I'd swing by 5 Guys to try out one of those delectable burgers we're always raving about. Yeah they have one at the park but sitting in an actual restaurant, munching on peanuts provides a better aura.

If you want something a little more "uptown" than a burger, I'd suggest a stop by Old Ebbitt's Grill on 15th St. for a crab cake sandwich.

Zed's Ethiopian on M Street or that Eritrean place I mentioned would work well.

They recommend Amsterdam Falafel, Sticky Rice is good but you have to have a car and the neighborhood is iffy, Burrito Bros is supposed to be great, On the Fly has veggie organic food vedor carts, Levante's is excellent, etc.
