Hammonds - I loved Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and kind of dug Call of Duty: Black Ops.  What I don't like is that the MP of COD became one nonstop azzkicking by dumbazz suburban honkies calling me and others the N-word and dirty UK dummies calling everyone a Paki.  It's no fun when ever room is filled with that nonsense and every game is pretty much one or two guys getting 60 kills and nuking you in 5 minutes.
Isn't that pretty much all they focus on now anyway?  Do the CoD games even have a SP campaign anymore?  I enjoyed MW's SP campaign, but that was the last console shooter I bought.

I'm not very good at shooters, admittedly. I only play them for fun, I don't play them to dominate competition.

that said, I enjoy slower, squad-based Objective-style shooters than fast run-a-gun team deathmatch.

I especially love games where I can play a support-style where simply killing isn't my main focus.

In BF3, the support class can lay down suppresive fire and get points. When you focus a lot of fire at an enemy, their screen goes all blurry and its a lot harder for them to shoot back (like it is in reality). so thats right up your alley

wow you guys really hate COD.  I've liked what I have seen from the videos of the BF games.  but i've owned every single product COD has come out with since COD:

COD2
COD3
CODW@W
CODMW (4)
CODMW2
CODBO

I love them all.  Sure there are some that are weaker than others and recycled plotlines, weapons and maps, but I really enjoy the franchise.  I just mute the little punks and if I'm playing in a game that features a bunch of punks knifing or trying to sabotage their own team, I'll quit.

I'm a company man, I don't know how I could turn my back on COD for BF after all this years and if I've this far invested.  I know I sound petty, but I only play a select few video games and it's been my go to for shooter.

lol then dont read anything I posted.

I enjoyed playing BF 1943. I'm pretty terrible at FPS and like MDS said, I don't particularly enjoy being slaughtered by a bunch of tweens that spend all day playing these games while the rest of us have to work. That being said, I'd consider getting BF3 for PS3 if you all were going to start playing it. It'll be a bit before I buy it though. Too busy playing NCAA 12

Glad you think so.  I'm definitely planning on playing it at some point.

You forgot Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3.

PC.

I'm a PC-first guy and always will be, but even I have to admit that the era of PC shooters is nearly over.  Unless you're just a graphics whore or want the single player experience (which sucks on most newer shooters, BF3 may be an exception, dunno), there's no reason to get a shooter for the PC when you know most of your buddies are gonna be playing it on console.  Especially with the increasingly complicated web of DRM and authentication schemes that publishers are spinning.  I was probably never going to pick up BF3 anyway, but now that EA is forcing you to use their service and not selling it on Steam, I definitely won't be.  It's not that I'm a humongous Steam fanboy or anything, it's just that my experience with EA's online store in the past was subpar and that I'd just prefer to keep my collection of digitally-purchased games in one place.

Something tells me that's going to be easier said than done in the coming years :(

I'm not really interested in Diablo 3/ME3, but I know they're great games. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

I bought Civilization V today after checking out the demo. It's a solid game to have on my laptop that will take up hours days of downtime.

Yea, I was disappointed I didn't check it out sooner. Just got a new laptop a week ago, though, which is why I started looking at some RTS/strategy games to install to freak around on when I'm bored.

I'm not a fan of Bethesda games. My brother loves them.

and UMD, what don't you like about Mass Effect?

I couldn't even make it five minutes with the Civ V demo, but I think it was just bad timing, I'll probably give it another shot.  Wish I hadn't missed that steam deal.

Didn't they do Brink, too? Not sure about that one.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of any of those games. I tried to get into Oblivion because my brother was a huge fan of that game, but it was so boring.

They published Brink. I can't remember who the developer was. They will be publishing Rage also. Not sure, but I think Bethesda owns Id Software...the developer of Rage.

Nothing - I've never played it, haha. I'm sure it's a fantastic game, just have never tried it.

Every BF game I've purchased has been on the PC. I don't know what to do about BF3 though. I have to ask my friends if they are going to purchase it since that will be a pretty big factor. I'm not sure though since 64 player multiplayer will bring me back to the old days of BF1942 compared to 24 (32 rush) console MP.

Definitely looking forward to this year with BF3, Diablo 3, GOW3, ME3... the year of the 3s.

Anybody else pick up a copy of Deus Ex?  Just bought it on Steam based on tons of good reviews and impressions from others I know who bought it.
