Sox have been carrying 6 relievers since the arrival of Kotchman and had to use everyone tonight. 2 guys went long - Saito and Ramirez. They pretty much needed this game because they have 1 more at the trop and 4 at New Yankee this week. They have 3 starts by guys not named Lester or Beckett, so they needed this Lester start for a good shot at 3 -3. This is the Rays best chance to get back into the race - sweep the Sox and hope the Sox and NYY split (if their going for the division) or one runs the table (to get a shot at the wild card).

But anytime you can belittle any other 3B in MLB that threatens Zimmerman's divine status it makes Zimmerman seem that much better (at least in SF's world).

Prince Fielder reportedly tried to charge the Dodger clubhouse after getting beaned by Mota:

Mota and Fielder were teammates in Milwaukee last year, but the veteran reliever and the burly power hitter are no longer on friendly terms. Fielder took off for the Dodgers' side of the stadium after the final out, shouting obscenities all the way to the clubhouse door.

Several teammates trailed behind him in a surreal scene, but Bill Hall and Casey McGehee got a firm grip on Fielder while a wall of security blocked his way.

Most of the Dodgers didn't know about Fielder's march, since the door he reached is at least 30 feet down a hallway from the clubhouse. They'll all hear about it before Jason Schmidt takes the mound Wednesday.

"We don't want the same situation as last year in the playoffs, when Philly threw at Manny and we didn't retaliate," Martin said, referring to last fall's NL championship series against the Phillies. "We don't want to be known as a team that doesn't have each other's backs."

In fact, I would argue that the best contribution Miles has made to the 2009 Chicago Cubs was his time on the disabled list; by being hurt, he wasn't available to underachieve.

His on-base percentage, as of Aug. 5, is .235; if Lou Piniella bats Miles second in the Cubs' batting order again, that might be my blood-alcohol level.

But, because Hendry was feeling charitable this winter, he gave Miles a two-year, $4.9 million contract. That's right, folks. Miles is here through next season, too.

If I scratched my head until that made sense, I would be completely bald.
