Balester, 5 hits 2 runs 2 walks 4 k's through 4 innings with a 3-2 lead. 59 pitches. The 2 runs were scored on a questionable fair ball down the 3rd base line that Casto and Foli argued or Bally wouldn't have given up any runs.

Yep. He picked one off of 2nd and 1 off of first. He is so quick at doing that. It is also great to see Bally's buddy, John Lannan pitching lights out tonight! Go Nats! Everywhere!

Tyler Clippard absolutely fantastic tonite. Bases loaded bottom of the 8th nobody out. Clippard strikes out the first two guys and gets the 3rd guy to fly out to center. Collin Balester gets his 4th win of the year ( 3rd win in a row) and Clippard gets a free meal from Bally!!! LOL

Martin pitches 7 innings with only 1 earned run against Rochester. The last two starts were nearly as good against first place Scranton. I see the other Syracuse starters were relief pitchers, one from the majors and the other from the lower farm teams. So who moves up next if all are pitching well in Syracuse? Martin is looking like a starter again at this point...

Balester is the next starter to get the call since he is on the 40-man.

Martin will be up at some point this season. He has been GREAT.

The P-Nats did today what we couldn't.

They trailed 5-0 after two innings but came back and won the game 6-5 on big hits by Espinosa, Marrero, Burgess, and Rooney.

Potomac is now 31-22 on the season.

Recognizing this may stink, but if the Nats want to add an extra option year for Balester, I thinkthey can if they may keep him down all year. They might do so if there are viable alternatives like Martin. While Martin is not on the 40 man roster, there are ways to generate space even if they are at the 40 man limit. Flores and Dmitri were never put on the 60 day DL, so I'm not sure the roster slot is that much of a concern for Martin. If they keep Balester down until September, then they don't gain the extra option year (I think), but I believe Brian said that that might be long enough to add a year before arbitration.

Can someone knowledgeable pipe in on this?

If Balester is in the minors for the full year, the Nats can apply (and likely would receive) a fourth option year

Damn, it sucks that Potomac might not win because Lynchburg is so hot. I wish teams could get at-large bids for the playoffs for having a good overall record. Maybe have the top 3 division winners by record and then one at-large wild card or something.

How does that work exactly? Was that because his first option year was not a full season. I remember a guy on the Rays got optioned in a fourth option year, and was blindsided and totally pissed.

good for them. they deserved it. But so did guys like Everts and Espinosa.

I saw one of the worst teams in the league, Frederick, got like 6 guys in.
