(moderators - feel free to move this to the main board if you think this is more about the majors than the minors).

Seems okay to me.  We're still talking about guys who are, recently were, or probably should be in the minors, and the discussion is largely about when to bring people up, so this seems appropriate.

I can bet when Cabrera was signed it took Balester by surprise. There went his spot.

I believe they signed Cabrera to fill the fifth spot.  Martis is the one who caught everyone (including Bally) by surprise and took Balester's spot.

Home run #12 for Norris ... 3-run shot puts the Suns up 3-1

That 1.012 OPS is looking mighty nice right now.  I still would rather have Norris finish up the first half of the season at Hagerstown, for a couple of reasons.  First, just getting more swings at that level will help build his confidence in his abilities.  Let him hit a few more dingers, drive in a few more runs, and make the Sally league all-star game.  Second, his abilities behind the plate are improved, but still in question.  From the games I have listened to he has struggled with blocking balls and down at Hagerstown they have the perfect guy for him to work with in this respect, Jack McGeary.  Let him catch McGeary for another few starts, it will be good practice for him with McGeary super curve.  Third, Norris is essentially the team leader at Hagerstown, move him up and he loses that role.  Leadership is paramount to the catching position, so why not let him be the team leader for another few weeks.  It can only help him in the future.

On the opposite side of things, why rush him now?  What are the good things that come out of it?  Pushing him up quickly isn't going to make him more major league ready, in fact sometimes it can hamper development.  Promotions aren't cut and dry, just because a guy plays well for a few weeks you don't shoot him up the ladder, which is what this organization has become accustomed to.  Promotions are a delicate balancing act in which you have to take many things into consideration, not just the numbers.  Norris will get promoted soon enough, I just don't think this particular week is the time.

My point about Carbrera was he was handed the spot as Martis, Balester, J Zimm and others were competing for the other spots.
If D Cab and the rest were all competing for 3 spots I do believe it would have been Bally getting the 5th spot Not D cab.
It still has worked out for the best as Bally has been given great Instruction from McCatty.

Potomac wins in 12 innings on a GW RBI Single by Francisco Plasencia.

Boomer Whiting and Sean Rooney had 3 hits apiece. Burgess and Espinosa each had 2 RBIs and also struck out 4 times apiece.

Potomac is now 28-21 (9-10 at home; 19-11 on the road) on the season but 5 games out of first place in their division to Lynchburg who is having a great year.

That's not too bad.  Not as dominating as last year but that's what happens when guys get promoted!   :D

Over the last 20 innings Graham Hicks has allowed 3 runs, 16 so, and 4 walks. He will go to Potomac on the 10th for a bullpen and then go to Hagerstown for a start on the 13th before being assigned to Vermont.

Good to hear. I am high on Hicks.

It looks like Engels is getting promoted this week to Potomac:

Suns starter Terrence Engles only pitched an inning and gave up a run. Engles is expected to start for Potomac later in the week and was getting a tune up. He was relieved by Patrick McCoy who threw three scoreless innings allowing two hits and walking four.

Marrero is ice cold all of a sudden. 1 for his last 23 with 6 Ks (.044 BA). :?

The P-Nats complete a sweep of Salem to improve to 29-21 on the season and 20-11 on the road.

Too bad Lynchburg never loses so they can't gain any ground in the division.

Meyers was decent tonight. 5.2 IP 5 H 1 R 1 ER 4 BB 2 K.

Everts got the win in relief and lowered his ERA to 0.95.

It is pretty much inevitable that every player will go on a cold streak at some point in the season.  The key is to see if they can adjust and snap out of it.  Also, can they still play good defense when they are slumping at the plate or do they let it get to them in the field too.

Brad Meyers struggled with command tonight, but was able to work out of jams.  The kid has been a pleasant surprise for us this year.

Tyler Moore continues to play well for the Suns.  He has had a hit in all of his games this year except two.   He is batting .326 over 26 games.  He probably will get a call up whenever Marrero gets the bump this season.

Moore is solid and has some power. Wouldn't mind seeing him in Potomac soon.

Man, Rooney for Potomac is having a real good year. Batting .315 with 11 Doubles, 4 HRs, 20 RBIs, 13 BBs, 18 Ks in 108 ABs.

He hit over .300 last year for Hagerstown too. He's a switch-hitter.

We definitely have some depth at catcher in the organization at the lower levels.  Solano, Rooney, Norris, and Killian.  It will be interesting to see how each of them pan out at the upper levels and if any of them can succeed at the MLB level.

hell yeah. they are getting him ready for the Majors since Flores is out for the year.

Replace Bard with Solano in another month or two. He can handle his duties behind the plate and hit for a relatively decent average.

good call, I can't believe I left him out.  I think we got a steal on Nieto in the fifth round.  Besides the failure to sign Crow, I was very impressed with last year's draft.  I am hoping they can continue that success next week.

Balester turns 23 today. I  hope he pitches well tonight! He has a string of 4 awesome outings in a row. 23 innings pitched, 2 runs given up 6 walks and 13 k's. 2-0 record, he has picked off 4 guys off of 2nd base and he has a hit batting  left handed and right handed with an RBI! Talk about a kid who is having fun!  He continues to get better and is learning how to pitch in AAA. A lot of Bally's progress is credited to McCatty.  Good Luck tonight in Rochester and Happy Birthday, Bally!!  Spinman
