When fans think they know more than the GM I usually just roll my eyes. But, the Nats management makes me seriously think that this could run the team better collectively than the front office.

Balester pitched lights out tonight. Forget the box scores. This was his best outing of 2009. Bally's back!! Good for him! Good for the Nationals! We should see him soon.

what?

Balester is 1-4 with a 4.94 ERA. Stammen will get the call over him.

Bradley Meyers is the hottest pitcher in our system. He has a 20.2 inning scoreless streak.

His total numbers on the season: 31 IP 22 H 5 R 4 ER 0 HR 4 BB 24 K (3-0, 1.16 ERA, 0.84 WHIP)

He is leading all of the Carolina League in ERA.

 :woop:

Beautiful outing, if one of out pitchers doesn't win the Carolina Pitcher of the Week then those awards area a sham.  Potomac's pitching staff has been on fire.  Here are the last five starts:

Meyers:  7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 SO
Atwood:  5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO
Mandel:  6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO
Willems:  5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO
Arnesen: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO

haha i agree i'd like to see meyers and arnesen up at AA sometime soon, but i'm not ready to call it quits on VanAllen.  He was money last year, hopefully he can regain his form.

And Spinman knows firsthand/secondhand accounts of Bally's outings, so maybe he really was better than the line indicated.  Just from looking at the line (unfortunately I didn't get a chance to listen to it) it sounded like he was pretty good.

SF thanks throwing out the 7 game win streak stat, had no idea.  thats awesome.

Whoa whoa, that is taking it a little fast.  Pitchers always thrive in the Carolina league.  Unless the Nationals have plans to use either one of those guys this season, then there is no reason to rush them up the ladder.

I think he meant AA. I don't think it is unreasonable that we should push College draftees like Meyers and Mandel to AA.

AA is a bit more reasonable, but I think you guys are getting a little excited with the promotion thing.  I'd like to see how things work out for them once the weather starts warming up a bit and the balls start to carry a little more.

it's a big jump but both Mandel (24) and Meyers (23) are pretty damn polished and most importantly they throw strikes.

5 BBs in 29.2 innings for Mandel.

4 BBs in 31 innings for Meyers.

Meyers sounds like he could be a legitimate middle of the rotation starter down the road. Mandel maybe projects as a back end of the rotation guy if he makes it that far.

I wouldn't mind if Meyers got the nod to go up first.  A few more outings like tonight and he will earn it I am sure.

I see where one scout compared Meyers to Derek Lowe. Low 90s fastball with sink on it and a developing slider + change-up.

If anyone should be called up ASAP, it needs to be Ozzie Rodriguez.  He is way older then other pitchers in the sally league.  11.2 IP, has only let up 2 ER and 2 BB while striking out 19 batters!  Move him to Potomac already!

yeah, there must be a reason why they haven't promoted him.

He even pitched at Potomac at the end of last season.

Where the heck is this power coming from Espinosa? He just cranked his 5th HR tonight in 91 ABs.

He only hit 4 HRs in 230 ABs last year in his senior season at Long Beach State. The Carolina League is supposed to be a "pitchers' league" too.

You better not jinx it. I don't want to find out he was on the juice.

Milledge has sucked recently... he's back down in the lower 200s. .217/.250/.275!

.275 slugging... WOW. He hasn't gotten a hit since Sunday.

His May line is: .080/.080/.120... .120 slugging lol. Send him to AA.

Transcript of a phone call, sometime next week...
Mike Rizzo: Hey ... Lastings?
Lastings Milledge: Sup.
Mike Rizzo: Listen, we want you to - we know it's been hard playing for 100 loss teams, that kind of thing. We decided it was time to get you some experience playing for a proven champion. Get you some time on a winning ballclub.
Lastings Milledge: Okay.
Mike Rizzo: You're starting in left for Potomac.
