Again, he is a type A this year. Next year he will likely be a type B at worst. We don't "lose" a draft pick. We would lose one this year but gain probably a better one next year (as a Type B). If you guys would rather have Anderson Hernandez -- well fine, but we really aren't "losing" a draft pick.

Quick question - If a Type A player isn't signed by the start of the regular season, does the comp. pick still apply?

personally, I think we should take whatever we offered to Dunn and offer the same to Abreu, and see who takes it first.

i'm warming up to the idea of abreu as well. i just wish we would offer one a slugger couldn't refuse and be done with it. oh well.

It's a business. You don't act based on emotion or indignation like this.

Having said that, it'd just be good business practice to throw a bit more at both of these guys than the Angels and see which one bites.

It remains to be seen whether Dunn would seriously consider a one-year deal or not. For a recap, here's a write up on the market for the unsigned slugger.

I didn't think the Astros were looking for another outfielder, but they might be the best fit for Dunn.

I like the Astros' offense, and Dunn would fit in better with that kind of talent around him. I wouldn't take it as a "freak you" to us, just a smart move for him.

I wouldn't hold it against him at all. Look where he would be coming: to a 102-loss team. He isn't going to be going anywhere with the Astros, but right now he knows he probably wouldn't be going anywhere with the Nationals either and he would be stuck in DC on top of that.

I would but then again he's already told us to freak off as our offer has been on the table for a long while now and he has done nothing to indicate he wants to play here. Why sign someone who doesn't even want to be here in the first place?

He just doesn't want to play here. The Teixeira Situation really messed things up for the Nationals. If Teix wasn't so gung-ho about being a Yank and he did sign here, I guarantee Dunn would be a National right now too if we still were offering him something. Since Teix said no, every FA is keeping their distance because they don't see much promise here right now.

It is all up to the players we have to improve our fortunes. Time to suck it up.

I'm done with Adam Dunn. It's clear he doesn't want to come here and the last thing this team needs is a guy who just wants to get through his contract and make his money.

Forget Dunn, maybe look at Abreu, but otherwise, just get ready for ST. I'm sick of these babies in the free agent market demanding ridiculous contracts, and the Nats getting thrown around like a ragdoll.

We really don't know but if you believe the article it claims he has a multi-year from the Nats. It also implies that Washington's offer is not the only one. Again, it's difficult to know which story to believe.

He was just stating rather definitively that we've extended Dunn a 2 year contract. I'm sure that it it a multi-year offer but I don't believe any bit of the details have been leaked out.
