so again I'll ask, do you think we need a complete overhaul, or is that too drastic a viewpoint of your stated opinion?

102 losses. Am I going too fast for you?

Am I going too fast for you?

seeing as to how I've seen your "speed" for a while now, I'm not sure that's actually possible, in your case.

but whatever gives you some self-esteem, I suppose. *shrug*

sadly, I was hoping for something of a straightforward "Yes get rid of them all" or "no, just add some pieces". but I suppose I should have known better, from you.

personally, I sit on the "add some pieces" side of the fence, as I believe that the team we will field this year will be much younger and much better than the team we fielded last year. no lopez, no loducas, no reddings, no perez's, no boones, no mackowiaks, etc.

I don't think we need the drastic overhaul you apparently seem to think we do. I think we need to add players, yes, but not a complete overhaul.  but that's just my opinion on the matter, and I could very well be wrong and we could very well need to throw out the whole lot of them.  *shrug*

but i think we have the beginnings of a pretty good club over multiple seasons. we just need to make sure the young talent grows well, and add some pieces to it.

is Dunn one of those pieces? probably. Hudson? i dunno. Hernandez is tearing it up in Winter Ball, I'd like to see what he can do.

Are you finished editing your original reply?  If so here's my answer, *shrug*.

the way I see it, over the next 2 offseasons, we need to add 1) a Power Hitter, 2) a frontline starter, 3) a mid-rotation starter, 4) a reliable Closer, 5) a Leadoff Man. in that order.

HOW we go about adding these things is completely irrelevant to me.

The 09 Nats, imo at this point in time with the current projected roster, are an 85-loss team, barring "Worst Case Scenario" like all of our injury problems last season.

we add 2 of the top 3 on the list I've given here, and we could possibly break even with a breakout season or two from the youngsters and some luck.  but more likely, we're still an 85-loss team *this season*.

1 and 2 are sitting there ready for the taking. All we need is an ok from Ted. To not nail those two needs NOW is inexcusable and worthy of a Boswell and Loverro rant.

just how much better exactly, do you expect Dunn to make this team?

Dunn's damn consistent in delivering 6 WARP (wins against replacement player) over the last 5 years.   We pretty much had replacement level first basemen last year, so by that logic if Dunn displaces say Casto in the lineup, 6 wins is what he's worth.

You wear pocket protectors by any chance? Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just asking.  :halo:

I just don't think the '09 team is really as bad as people are making it out to be.  yes the '08 team was horrendous. But I don't think the '09 team will be so, even without a major FA signing.

part of that feeling, on my part, comes from the fact that our entire starting lineup spent significant time on the DL last season, and thusly we were throwing people who had no business being on the field in the starting lineup to compensate for all the injuries.

combine that with Bowden's Cincy Crew (Kearns/Pena/Lopez) sucking to high heaven and a lack of pitching, and you've got 102 losses.

Lopez is gone, as well as most, but not all, of the crap we threw out onto the field last season to replace the injuries.  we get rid of Kearns/Pena (or by some miracle the decide to DO THEIR JOBS FOR ONCE), and we're almost set, outside of adding the pieces i said in the previous post.

Any team that goes to camp with Casto, Belliard and Colome (to name but a few) has earned its place as the worst team in baseball. We have so many holes it's ridiculous and to attach any warm and fuzzies over most of these guys is completely misplaced, IMO. *shrug* (hey, this is fun!)  :icon_mrgreen:

Huh?  Only Belliard will be on the 25 man, Casto and Colome are AAA filler.  Colome's not even on the 40 man roster.

I don't know about you but I was born when Bucky Harris was manager of the Nats. All I've known is suck ass baseball around here and I'm getting damned tired of it. I'm not getting any younger, yanno?  :spaz:

I was an original senator's fan -- First in peace, first in war and last in the AL East - and all that  -- at this point you're just nagging to nag -- take a break and have a drink or something - there will be plenty of time to complain when the season starts ...

one of these days it'll sink in, that we're not BPG, and the whole "Insult the whole forum at once" thing only really makes *him* look rather silly, rather than the so-called hated villain he was over there. *shrug*

but until then, it's "little old DCFan against the whole WNFF."

You know .. the song itself is actually pretty ironic -- because all the crap she sings about is actually not ironic at all -- her song should really be titled ... isn't it a bummer?
