Next year has a much better crop of FA's, and like someone else said here, you don't just sign someone for the sake of signing someone. I mean, even though we're fans, we're not blind to see even with Dunn we are not winning the world series. Also, even with Dunn this year, we're still MOST PROBABLY not going to be .500. Since money does NOT have to be spent just for the SAKE of spending, what would the point be in having him here this year?? We could easily sign a replacement bat next year, with someone who is not destined to be a DH in a couple of years. I'd like to see our team win, but quite frankly, in the long run, signing Dunn leaves us less room to sign better/complete FA's next year who would actually contribute to this team winning. If we were an AL team, on the verge of winning, I'd be looking at Dunn just for his HRs. In our situation, we're signing him because we failed to land Teix and we need a consolation prize to make the fans happy. Now someone else said, sign Dunn and trade him in 2-3 years for prospects. Well at this trade deadline, there wasn't much interest in him, and Arizona really didn't give up too many prospects for him, and you can only imagine his value will decrease when he's really not even able to field in a couple of years and his Ks increase, his vision deteriorates leading to less walks, and his power decreases. Now, that's all on the premise we'd be over paying for his services. If we get him for 10.5m or less a year, then I'd say go and sign him, but to overpay, sorry, that puts this team in a far worse position in the upcoming years. If he wants more than 11m, you sign Abreu for 2 years, and then go look at FAs then.
