yawn. I kind of hope we get Dunn so all of you Dunn-ites () get a first-hand look at how truly overrated that tub of goo really is.

i don't like this competition for center business, especially if the loser (Milledge) is benched. there wouldn't be much competition between Dukes and Milledge since Dukes is the far more advanced and simply superior ballplayer.

Maybe because your fearful your true love isn't the real deal? He'll get hurt and blow it?

Absolutely nothing is wrong with competition in Spring Training. To say otherwise just shows what an absolute tool you are.

According the Blog Lobson, the Nats are looking at Randy Wolf:

Quote
WASHINGTON -- Looking to upgrade their rotation, the Nationals have expressed interest in free-agent left-hander Randy Wolf, according to a baseball source.
But the team finds itself in competition with the Mets for Wolf's services. It's not known how much money the Nationals are willing to spend on the southpaw, but the club envisions Wolf as a leader who could serve as a mentor for young pitchers, such as John Lannan and Scott Olsen, on how to win.

"[The Nationals] would like Wolf to stabilize their rotation," the source said.

This past season, Wolf, 32, split time with the Padres and Astros, going a combined 12-12 with a 4.30 ERA in 33 starts. Wolf was one of the reasons the Astros were in the National League Wild Card race. He was 6-2 with a 3.57 ERA, and Houston won 10 of Wolf's 12 starts.

Last year was Wolf's best season since 2003, when he won 16 games for the Phillies. In between those two successful seasons, however, Wolf spent a lot of time on the disabled list because of elbow and shoulder problems.

The Nationals have already dipped into the free-agent market for a starting pitcher. On Dec. 29, Washington agreed to terms with right-hander Daniel Cabrera, who will make $2.6 million in 2009.

Cabrera was 8-10 with a 5.25 ERA for the Orioles this past season.

I just don't see where any of you opposed to picking up Dunn are coming from?  He will make this team better and it's not like we're going to be tied down for more than 3/4 years.  WE HAVE NO ONE ELSE TO PLAY FIRST BASE?  NO ONE!

How many times do I need to repeat myself ... I'm not one for spending just to spend, but this is the proper time to do it.  How can any of you sit back and say I don't want us to pick him up, I'll settle for last year's 1st base situation.  How did that turn out?  Well it played a huge role in a 102 loss season.

New post from Chico. IF He is right, I hope The Lerners have trouble selling 20,000 tickets a game.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal/2009/01/right_off_the_stove.html

Could be negotiating thru the media. Time to just pony up.

Either Kasten is an idiot or Chico is  . . .

Yeah Bernadina would be a better 1st base option 8)

Randy Wolf....oh, freak it. Why not? I'm getting tired of all this. The team isn't going to pick up any long term pieces during this off season. As long as they don't sign them to ridiculously long contracts, freak it.

"Wolf" would look cool on the back of a jersey.

I don't have a man-crush on Dunn like I did for Church but he provides what the team is lacking - a masher.

That would sure make Ronnynat happy. :?

I don't know why they insist on bringing another lefty into the mix. I don't know if Wolf is any better than Perez to be honest.

Actually maybe they want LHP's to balance out the right handed lineup.

I'd be okay with Olsen/Lannan/Wolf as long as you separate them with righties.  A good pitcher is a good pitcher.

Wolf was way better than Perez last year.

Yes, it was a disgraceful ass-kissing.

Damn, it was that bad!

sportsfan's ragepost count is inversely proportional to the number of wins the team gets, so of course he doesn't want us to improve, it might threaten his lead in the forum stats

I'm going to quote his post back to him during the season when he is nagging about our lineup.

Wolf was way better than Perez last year.
Their ERA was pretty much identical.

Perez 4.31 ERA
Wolf 4.30 ERA

Sure Wolf went a little deeper into games but Perez would have had basically the same amount of wins and everything if he was pitching for Houston. Perez is also a few months younger than Wolf. Wolf costs a lot more than Perez too.

If 3/5 of your starters is a LHP, then no one is out of position, you just have a lefty in your lineup most of the time. Sad.
