The CP is isolated and bitter and just piles scorn on anyone and anything because they know that they will be gone in a year or two...Craig's List has killed their classified ad business, and they have had layoffs upon layoffs for the past couple of years. And their office over on Champlain Street is about to be turned into a luxury hotel, the ultimate indie press ignominy.
But as for the Lerners being cheap freaks and screwing the city, that perception certainly exists around here, whatever the merits.

You would think if you're able to make 18MILLION a year, that you might watch what you eat. During the season you're constantly working out and training and travelling that it wouldn't be possible. Then in the offseason, you do light work outs, but still, you have 18 MILLION reasons on your mind to make sure while you're down south in the SUN that you want to make sure you're taking care of yourself. I can't believe how bad Jones messed up, some people don't deserve these chances.

Is it all really about weight though? I always felt Jones was a juicer and coming off the juice hurt his numbers along with not taking care of himself.

AJ was always slightly hefty, just a tad more with the dodgers.

Jeff Joyce and Bill Ripken addressed my e-mail question on XM Hotstove (10:00 - 1:00 on XM-175). I asked about what happens with NJ if the Nats sign Adam Dunn. They dodged the NJ part but both made mention of making a huge mistake just assuming you can take a player like Dunn and move him to 1B.

Cubs sign Milton Bradley
A's sign Jason Giambi.

that leaves Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn as the premier left-handed hitters on the market.

between those two, which do you take, and why?

Really??? He hit 20 hrs and had 100 rbi's. Not quite .300, he hit .290 something. Defenisvely he's worlds better than Dunn.

that doesn't look quite as finished to me as it does to you.

that said, I take Dunn over Abreu for one reason only: He's younger. Dunn's 28. Abreu is 34.

but really, either of the two is fine by me.

He's an average out fielder. He played for the Yanks, so everyone has seen him on tv, he didn't look like his former self to me, subjective, but thats how he looked to me. Bill James apparently thinks he can repeat last year, http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=945&position=OF, but personally I don't think he would be a good pickup

Willingham, Milledge, and Dukes can all put up the same numbers he did. That and he is 34.

*shrug* Dunn. At least he's younger and would probably make a "not-quite-as-crappy-as-the-alternative" first baseman.

That would be great if they all can put up similar numbers to that. I think if you're going to move an outfielder to 1b, I'd rather decide between Abreu and Willingham than Willingham and Dunn. Abreu, in double the games played has committed the same number of errors as Dunn. He's on a different level defensively. Dunn, I don't think is a long term solution. If that's the case, go with the better player, which is Abreu, IMO (and he'll be cheaper).
