Unlike AZ, I reserve judgement on players regardless of looks, spikes or pimp status and look at what he/she can do for a team.  Dunn just sucks.
Another day and another posting barrage on your dislike for Dunn.  :blah:

Someone from the Nats is going to be on XM-175 in about 1/2 hour.  Didn't catch the name 'cause I was reading the posts I missed from last night but I thought they said Bowden.  I'll update as events warrant.

Compare Dunn's numbers to Duke's

Just did.  Numbers for the 162 game average are fairly comparable but slightly skewed since Dukes has only played in two Major League seasons and never more than 81 games.  Dukes hasn't had the opportunities that Dunn has so it's tough to say, plus, Dunn's 29 - Dukes is 24.  A better comparison could be made in a couple of seasons when Dukes has had 1,000 more AB's under his belt.

I'm just saying if Dukes reaches his potential, he will be Dunn with better speed and better defense- namely a high obp, low average, high slugging hitter

Check.  It's Bob Boone.  Sounds like he's on next segment...

ME. i don't think many people are aware of that. i became an an avid Expos Fan around 2000 (i was attracted to Rondell White them for some reason) and then I made the natural transition to becoming a Nationals fanatic.

They mostly talked about HoF stuff since the ballots are due in two days.  But, they did spend about ten minutes talking Nats.

Basic recap:

On Teixeira sweepstakes:  The F.O. felt genuine disappointment.  Felt as though their offer was the best and was willing to go higher had Tex given them the opportunity.  They never envisioned themselves as a longshot and thought they did an excellent job selling Tex on the direction of the club but that Tex probably picked the Yankees for the chance to win it all in 2009.  They honestly felt the team would be better with Tex going forward and would have given the Nats, "solid pieces at 3B and 1B for the next 8-10 years."  I read this as, "Zimmerman isn't going anywhere and it would've been nice to get him a great complimentary player to hit behind him and play gold-glove calibre 1B."

On What's next:  Desperately need to add a big bat but that player MUST fit into long-term plans.  He was asked directly about Dunn and Manny.  Boone said Dunn would make more sense long-term and Manny would be a quick-fix.  The Front Office loves his "homeruns and on-base percentage," and thinks he'd be a decent fit in the lineup.  They would plan on playing Dunn at 1B if they were to land him.  When talking about Manny he said, "yes we have holes that need filling, but we can't do 'stop-gaps' anymore."  I am encouraged by the "no need for stop-gaps" comment, but I am disappointed they think so highly of Dunn as a long-term solution.

On Free-Agent pitching:  He said directly, "fans may disappointed, but we need to have patience in terms of our rotation.  We have a lot of potentially great arms that just aren't ready yet and we aren't going to compromise the future for a quick fix in the pitching department."  He said that was the way they did it in Atlanta and that's the approach they're taking here.

Pretty good information considering Boone probably isn't supposed to say much publicly.

I am willing to be patient with pitching primarily because high dollar pitchers are such a crapshoot but there's no excuse whatsoever to improving the offense. There are always bats to be had in the market and Lord knows we have plenty of salary space.

Money talks. Why not just offer the 200 they were supposedly "willing" to offer.

You mean offer your max right up front?  Nobody does that.

Does Dunn owe any gratitude to Jimbo for his time in Cincy?
I haven't read much about their relationship, but is that a deciding factor?

I don't want Nick on 1st, he is made of glass. You guys might not like Dunn, but he is better that our other options at 1st.

Great stuff in that Boone interview.  Thanks for recapping it.

I don't know why, exactly, they think signing a Sheets or a Lowe for 2-3 years would "get in the way" of their young arms, but whatever.  No sense nagging about their faulty logic because it won't change their minds.

We still have no idea about trades. I didn't expect Willingham and Olsen

None. He was a high draft pick for a reason and if Jimbo had taken leave of his senses and bypassed Dunn, he'd have been drafted, probably by the next team in the draft order.

Are you Adam Dunn?  Or are you his mom?

Not yet (but I don't have a dog).  But he would ruin my favorite baseball team.

XM-175's MLB Hot Stove with Jeff Joyce Seth Everett and Buck Martinez is saying that Dunn - with all of his deficiencies - makes sense only in Washington.  Both are saying that Dunn is just another incarnation of Dave Kingman/Rob Deer/Matt Stairs/etc. but that the Nats are in such desperate need of offense that Dunn would be an option here.

Both are crucifying Dunn for his bad defense, low batting average and sub-par "speed."

Good news for DCFan:  They've vowed to have a segment devoted to the Adam Dunn Fan Club coming up so you can call in and tell the world why Adam Dunn is so great.

Ken doesn't like us anymore. when he starts rageposting over the most insignificant things, we have the nerve to call him on it.
