I think a lot of guys don't want us to get him, because they can't call the Lerners cheap anymore.

That's a stupid reason for not getting him and I doubt many, if any, feel that way. That would be detrimental to the winning cause and no Nats fan has any business feeling that way.

How many ML Teams that had half of their starters out for more than a quarter of the season, would be competitive?
YET no article mentions that fact. Our team was made up of fill-ins like Casto, Orr, Langerhans, and Bernadina. LoPuca and FLOP did terrible for us too.

Seriously, how many teams could have done better in our situation?

^ sportsfan with breaking news.

Bob Ryan, a huge Boston homer, just said it's not possible that Teixeira goes to the Nats and that we have not heard the last of Boston in the proceedings. He called it a high stakes poker game.

Bob Ryan on PTI just laughed at the thought of the Nats being the frontrunners for Tex and said that this is a big boy poker game and the Sox will be back in the running.

According to ESPN, our offer is the same as the Angels and is lower than the Red Sox. If that's true then we're not even a major player.

Was Wilbon on it? He should slap him.

I hate people with those views.

I mean honestly, what makes Sox Nation believe they can be in when the freaking owner said there out?

Unless i missed something.

Those were just the reported offers. The higher offers have yet to be reported for obvious reasons.

That was the original offer. If we updated it like others suggested, no one has reported that figure yet.

Sportscenter about to start.
They just can't get it thru their heads that the Sox have bowed out. It's like it's a fact of life that the Sox get all the good free agents and to think otherwise is heresy.

Chico Updates

Quote
So far, no drastic developments today. I can tell you this. Nats GM Jim Bowden is hunkered down this afternoon at his office in DC (no Dallas hotel meeting), but has no desire to talk on the subject. Meanwhile, the Nationals are waiting-waiting-waiting. Do they suddenly see themselves as frontrunners for Teixeira? No, not if you ask them with a Bible in hand. But they've come this far -- a perception-altering achievement in itself, especially when you consider that the Lerners make their money in the suffering real estate business... and had never, until now, thrown around such a mighty contract offer. They did so because they are deadly serious.

You got to admit it'd be awesome to see how the Nationals-hating media would react to us getting Teixeira.

In fact, the spin would be something about a "bailout" and "Washington spending money" and comparing the Nationals to Congress trying to get a baseball "stimulus package" or something. You just know some sportswriter who thinks he's really clever will write that article.

they'd say we wasted our money and are just trying to revive our dead team.
