Red Sox owner John Henry said late Thursday night that while the team is impressed with free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira, a deal won't be made.
The Red Sox met with Teixeira Thursday evening. In an e-mail to Dan Roche, Henry said, "We met with Mr. Teixeira and were very much impressed with him. After hearing about his other offers, however, it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor."
Boston had hoped to lure the 28-year-old switch-hitter with an offer rumored to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-years and $180 million.
However, that deal doesn't seem to be an option.
Roche says Teixeira is still talking with the Angels, Toronto Orioles, and the Washington Nationals.
