The Nats are run by lunatics, that is the only explanation.

Party time at the Orioles Hangout:

Quote
If there's a soul inside the man of Mark Teixeira, he will not go to Nationals. If he signs with the Nats then that confirms that the only concern of Mark's is $$$$$$$, because that is all they have to offer.
Quote
I guess that explains their sign everyone to MiL contracts ploy, it's going to be Tex, Dukes, Milledge, Zimmerman, and the quad-A mediocrity patrol over there if this happens.
Quote
I think the fact that its down to the Nats, Angels and us (with the possibility only of Yanks and Sox) is much better than anyone thought our position would be when this started.
Quote
The Nats offer is bald Britney crazy money there.
Quote
In other news, Peter Gammons reports that Boston is still the front-runner after their mega offer of 4 years and $35 million. He also called Henry a liar and said that no one should ever listen to him.

Not going to lie, I feel really good right now about this

That sounds logical SG but everything I hear about the Learner group is that they are undecided (the family is at odds with each other about what to do) and very hesitant to spend more money.

A little perplexing is what it is.

BTW, Jon Heyman has mucho eggo on his face-o after posting today on his blog that the Red Sox "are heavy favorites" according to everybody in baseball.

I only see the Yankees keeping him from the Red Sox. There is no chance of them signing him when the Red Sox are out of the running.

houston - just goes to show that when it comes to the Nats, Orioles fans base their opinions solely on recognizable names.

every Tex thread anywhere, I see some Orioles fan saying "The Nationals don't have a single talented player so Tex won't sign with them" or something along those lines.

Heyman and just about everybody else out there had Tex in a Sox uniform. Gammons, Olney, Schmuck, Roch, I think everyone figured it was done.

This Nats offer, if true, might just get it done. That's just a massive offer.

so over on OH, they are saying it is between the Yankees and the Orioles, with the Orioles having the last chance to match whatever the Yankees offer.

based on what someone from MLB XM radio said

Shmuck should be a personal reporter for Putz.

The Reds signed Griffey, remember, anything is possible.

this is what really got me laughing out loud.

Quote
I don't propose to be an expert on the Nationals... but since I live in the DC area and read and listen to their media I feel I can comment.

The Nationals don't do anything crazy. The Nationals do not have money right now. Their stadium costs are killing themselves and the Learner group is already 100+ Million over what they had hoped for when they bought the franchise. I HIGHLY doubt they will make any drastic offers. the 150-160 Million reported weeks ago is probably as high as they'll go.

and the response:

Quote

Excellent call about the stadium. IIRC, they're really struggling to pay the bills as it is.

are you kidding me?

I THINK this ridiculous statement is based on the whole "Lerner rent-paying" fiasco.

people really need to do some research before they start spouting ridiculous crap like this.

The Nationals (Lerners) have plenty of money. That has never been the issue.
