People who argue that a K is better than a ball in play are the people who've never played ball before.

P.S. Who are you, Brad Wilkerson? He strikes out a crapload and sucks anyway

For those of you clamoring for two 'stud free agents', here's a challenge, name two stud unsigned free agents?

trick question you can't ... go get teixeira!

dunn is borderline stud b/c of his bat.  manny is definitely a stud, but where do you put him?  and ben sheets is prob the best of the remaining pitchers available.

WBZTV - Boston

Red Sox officials are meeting with free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira Thursday, WBZ's Dan Roche learned.

However, the two sides aren't close to getting a deal done. Boston hopes to lure the 28-year-old switch-hitter with an offer and the numbers out there Thursday were somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-years and 180-million dollars.

However, nothing is expected to be "conclusive" following their meeting and that the two sides are apart on the money terms.

They already said that they are not going to spend money on an expensive starting pitcher. The only starting pitchers we'll be signing are cheap bums like Odalis Perez.

That probably wouldn't be a bad signing but I don't know if we'd be willing to give him a 2-year deal which is probably what he wants.

I think the Lowe comment was sarcasm (I hope). I wouldn't mind getting either Oliver Perez or Cabera and hope they can put it together- they both definitely have the stuff. If they can't we're not any worse off

Good find WPA. That report was made sometime around 8:16 pm. I don't think they've got him yet. Let's be patient....this is not a done deal yet.

Baltimore Sun

Contacted early tonight, Orioles president Andy MacPhail was unaware of the TV report. He would not comment on any speculative offers, but said he had not been informed by anyone in the Boras camp that a deal was pending.

I doubt Tex would sign without Boras checking one last time with all teams involved to see if they will up their offers.

Oh well, as a Nats fan you had to know this was coming. Hopefully we get Dunn, but the last thing I want to see is the FO go out and get a bunch of over the hill FAs to make up for it. For those of you clamoring for two 'stud free agents', here's a challenge, name two stud unsigned free agents?

I think most people are thinking of Dunn and Hudson. Whether they qualify as "studs," I don't know...but I think those are the two most people have in mind.

If we signed Tex, would that day mark the most members you think? Or is the Zimmerman one still hold the crown?

The day we make a playoff race / playoffs is the day itll beat the Zimmerman day.

I thought the day we cut TRJPWH was the most members online.

if some of you participated in The Guessing Game: '09 Nats roster thread, you'd know I have the Nats signing him this offseason.

I think what is happning is that he is trying to get the Sox to put forth a better offer than the Nats so he can go there, and so far they have been unwilling to do so.

If they don't pay up, he may turn to his second choice and take the best offer and hope for the best out of the Nats organization....might work out and he becomes  a hero or he bolts in 4-5 years to a contender.

I just wonder how high the Sox are willing to go? It's possible they are playing the "contender" card one last time. God knows when this thing will end, but it will be interesting to see what the offers were when it finally does end.

I'm reading it like that too. It sounds like he wants to go to the Sox, but he can't take much less than we're offering.
The players union would be up in arms if he took 25 million less.

If you were the Nats think tank what kinda out-clause would you give him?  4 years?  5 years?

Hell what offer would you give him overall?

and with that said, Dukes can't play every position at the same time.

so having Dunn won't hurt, and is much preferably to having Casto at 1B. period.  Tex is ideal, Dunn is a fine Plan B.

so I'm confused as to why you seem obsessed with comparing every single player at every single position on the field to Dukes. he only plays one position at a time, so we need other players, obviously.

To be fair, AZ didn't raise the point of comparing Dunn to Dukes, someone threw a comment at him and he responded.

It also helps that I agree that Adam Dunn is not the best option we have at 1B.  I'd seriously rather give NJ a chance to stay healthy over putting Dunn in a position he cannot play just to give us a 40 HR guy.

If Adam Dunn plays 1B for us this year, we will lead the majors in infield errors.

Ok lets start NJ and then be screwed after 25 games. Brilliant. Casto and Dmitri can back him up

Besides, NJ only hits like 20 HR's and they are always garbage 1 run homers when the game is already lost.
