come on Lerners, go up to where you need to go, and give him his 5 year opt-out.

make this happen.

What is that?

The mystery of the sneezing girl has been solved.................................

She is Margaret Nolan. The sneezing part comes from a movie in 1973 called Carry on Girls. She also went by the name of Vicky Kennedy during her career. The sneeze scene was staged.

Oh crap she was the chick in Goldfinger by the poolside. Good work Berkeley.

the same thing that A-Rod had on his 10-year contract. after a certain amount of years he can opt out of his contract and become a free agent.

right, if the guy is being overpaid, you're stuck paying him.  If he's being underpaid, he's outa here.  It's real one sided in favor of the player, but at least you get 5 years out of him.

Yeah, it appears one sided for the player -- however, If the Nats aren't contenders in 5 years then Tex isn't the guy getting you over the top anyway -- so him opting out would be a good thing, right?

While it may be one sided, in 5 years he would be 33 anyway and the Nats could use the money due him and go in a different (younger) direction.

Gammons says that Boras might be trying to get Tex to go to the Red Sox,  so that he can sell Manny to the Nats.

nobody has any interest in Manny, so if Tex signs with us, Manny is stuck.   but if Tex signs with the Sox, then the Nats might fall back on Manny.  the Nats are said to be the only team in baseball besides the Dodgers with even a little interest in Manny, and the dodgers pulled their offer.

that's Gammons' logic and it somewhat makes sense. I wouldn't put this stunt past Boras.

Manny can help us, but not long term. he'd sell tickets this year and next and he'd rake next year for sure, but beyond that he'd really be no use to us, as he's getting old.

if Boras wants to play us like that, I'd offer Manny the exact same deal that the Dodgers did(2/45 with a team option for a 3rd),  or less, and tell him to take it or leave it.  all the while talking with Adam Dunn, and exploring options for other First Baseman

Not really.  If you got a guy playing like a $30m player, and you're only paying him $20m, you've got a cheap player who is not only holding your comp costs down, but has enhanced trade value.  The opt-out clause eliminates for the team what could be a bargain back end of the contract,  but is a valuable option for a player to have.

Yeah freak that. I don't think Ramirez would be a good fit for us anyway. I hate that Boras manipulates the direction teams can take.

however, suppose we miss out on Tex.

but then we sign Manny and Dunn.

then what?

just trying a positive spin here.

If we got both of them? I could live with that.

just theorycrafting here:

we can get Manny for 2 or 3 years.  2/45 or 3/60.

we could probably get Dunn for 4-5 years at a per-year dollar amount lower than Manny. I'm thinking 4/60 or 5/60.

that's 120M out of the 180-200 we are going to spend on Tex.  what could we use that other 60m for?

I'd look at putting a package together with Milledge as the centerpiece for some pitching.

looks like we have another dollar figure, this time from the Orioles:

Quote
In fact, a published report said that the Orioles offered Teixeira a seven-year, $150 million contract.

Would that beat our 8/160?

I mean 21 per year vs our 20 per year? ahhhhhhhhhh

however, OH folks are talking that the Orioles ARE going to jump to 10/200.

OH is at a fever pitch right now, they are pretty damn confident that it's a done deal and that they are going to get him.

Yeah, just like when they got Vlad Guerrero several years back.

There are either going to be a lot of really disappointed O's fans or a bunch disappointed Nats fans.  Or both if the Frat Sox win it.

apparently Angelos has taken over the negotiations from Macphail. it's said that he's obsessed with Teixeira. so we'll see.

I just know that our 8/160 is NOT going to get it done.  i'll be shocked if he signs for anything less than 10/200.
