LA Times = OK because they report good Nationals stories.

ESPN = BAD because they report stuff that makes us frown

Personally, I don't believe crap until it happens.

Guys, let's keep this in the Tex and the Nats thread, no reason to have multiple threads.

Seriously, how much money and contract is TOO MUCH for Teix in your opinions? Someone throw out some numbers.

If we are the highest bidder (by a decent margin), won't the players union pretty much force him to take the contract?

I just don't understand the ESPN hate. They cover certain teams much more dilligently than others, but the hate here is pretty ridiculous and unfounded.

as expected, the talk is the yanks are most likely to bow out of the Teix sweepstakes.  Nats, Halos, crummy Sawx and I'm assuming the Birds are still in it.

I think its going to come down to us and the red sox, whether or not we are willing to pony up the dough and increase our initial offer is yet to be seen....

I wouldn't count out the Angels just yet, especially with Sabathia signing with the Yanks. BTW, I wonder how Yankee fans feel about the signing? Sabathia kind of made it obvious that he didn't want to come to New York. If he struggles, they'll run him out of town.

One of my Yank friends considers C.C. an overweight, overpaid, liability in the Yanks near future.

Apparently he has an opt out clause in the contract that allows him to get out of the contract after three years. He'll get the hell out of there the first chance he gets unless he learns to like it there.

I know plenty here will be pissed and whine and nag and moan and go off on how cheap the Lerners are, etc. etc. etc. if we don't get the Holy Teix, but however it may end up, at least we are standing up to giant (douchebags) teams like the Red Sox and Yanks. We are still in this until he signs his name to paper.

Will it happen? I don't think so. But it has been a ride.

Either way we are jacking the price up for Teix right now. So even if we don't sign him, no one is getting him cheap. Teix is really a complete player. I'm hoping the Angels decide to go for Ibanez and the Sox sign like Lowe, and then we'll be good for Teix.

Of course.  That's exactly what the NY media has been pounding into them for years.  However, that tune is about to change, since he's one of God's Children now.

How has it been a crappy ride? We have been in the running for the highest prized FA this off season (something many here have been nagging like a high school cheerleader on the rag for the team to be doing for the pasty two years: FAs! FAs!). A least 26 or 27 other teams can't say the same thing.

There are going to be 29 losers at the end of this, but you have to admit it has kept you checking the hot stove and posting here.

I don't have my hopes up. If it happens..nice. I just don't think that we're attractive enough at this point to compete with the Sox, Yanks, and Angels. I'll be happy if we get Dunn and some servicable arms.

I dont really mean crappy as in this situation sucks, ive just been thinking about this for like 2 months now and just want to know the outcome!

Kind of like a result you want to know but then always goes to a commercial and you have to wait 5 minutes to hear the result...

But instead its alot longer.

Only crappy part is that we have to contend with the Sox who i can't stand, and if they come out on top, this is all i'll/we'll hear for awhile.

I'm not nagging, IMO I'm just preaching the truth.  The Lerners have been cheap thus far and haven't spent sh!t.  Show me the money.

Although I will say it is exciting to be in the race and anything to get on the nerves of the Red Sox, I'm all for it.

Do you know what $160-$200 million looks like? $1 million?

It is so easy to give up other people's money. freak it, Lerners, pay $500 million!

He just watched "Cool Hand Luke", where Luke (Steve McQueen) fights the prison tough guy, and gets pounded into the turf, but keeps getting up to receive another whupping.  Repeat, over and over.  It's heroic in an insane sort of way.

No I don't know what it looks like b/c the Lerners haven't spent it yet.  Oh wow Austin Kearns three year deal what a blockbuster move!  Get a real player (cough cough Teixeira).
