Past experience. The guy with the contract plays so we can trade him. Look at Lo Duca last year. We didn't release him till after the trade deadline.

It's not a secret who the Nationals are looking at as far as the left-handed bat is concerned. Switch-hitting first baseman Mark Teixeira is their top target, and it has been reported that the club has already made an offer to Teixeira. Washington is also competing with the Orioles, Yankees and Angels for his services.

LAS VEGAS – Officials from other teams are scoffing at the notion that the Washington Nationals, committed to making a splash in free agency this offseason, are legitimate suitors for first baseman Mark Teixeira.

While the Nationals have indicated they are willing to spend money – Teixeira’s agent, Scott Boras, told Foxsports.com that “they intend to be aggressive on many fronts” – the idea of Teixeira joining a 102-loss team is unlikely.

Already the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels have prioritized signing Teixeira, who could command a contract in excess of eight years and $160 million. New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to meet with Teixeira and Boras, and the Baltimore Orioles courted him as well.

So, one official with a team involved in the bidding said, unless Washington blows Teixeira away with a contract offer approaching the $200 million Boras had hoped to fetch, landing Teixeira is a longshot for the woeful Nats.

“If he signs with the Nationals, that’s fine,” the official said. “That shows us we wouldn’t want him anyway.”

Players do what their agents tell them to do. It depends on what Boras wants. If Boras gets the big offer he wants for a player and believes that the player's health and well being will be taken care of, he'll make the deal.

In reality, just one move shouldn't make me change my mind, but a 10 yr/$200 mil is pretty high up there.  The fact is they haven't done anything since taking over the club to prove to the fan base that screams out and says: "hey we care about our product, we want you all to enjoy the experience with a winning team." ...

All we have seen is high ticket prices to watch an AAAA roster play in a stadium for which the owners didn't have to pay for.  SHOW ME THE MONEY!  If they show us they care, i'll be happy.
