As poorly as he's pitched at times this year, that was the best type of player they were going to get. He's probably a setup man at best on most playoff contenders, not a closer. Thus, he didn't get a rental closer haul.
Most fans wanted him DFA'ed at this point anyways, so few are going to complain about it.
I just don't want ownership to force Rizzo's hand in having any trades where the return is lessened just so ownership can save money. The owners signed these deals, own up to them and suck up the money. If their actual plan was "one championship and now we just develop no one and be cheap" this franchise is going to be very un-fun to watch for decades.
