We absolutely got the better deal from the Dodgers.

Paddack needs a lot of work and wont have the ceiling that Gray does. The caveat is that his floor is probably higher.

Honestly, the Pads were offering Hassell and cash to take Hosmer. There was definitely a better deal to be had of the Padres became desperate

Paddack and Campusano as a starting point for Scherzer and Turner.  Apparently, Paddack hurt himself in his last start before the deadline (oblique) which may have resulted in the thing blowing up.

Unless Padres got desperate, not certain how a Paddack-Campusano package could have been structured to match what Dodgers gave up.

I do think the Padres could have outbid Dodgers if they wanted to. But that trade beginning wasn't the package you should start with if you want to keep Max Scherzer away from your top rival.

At least if the season is cancelled, then we robbed the dodgers for Ruiz, Gray, Carrillo, and Casey for half seasons of Scherzer and Turner
