A couple days ago Dierkes said A.J. Burnett will look into Baltimore and D.C. if he opts out of his contract, because he lives around there.

Oh I know. I remember vividly of him absolutely choking like a dog down the stretch last year for the Mets. He was awful this year too (5.54 ERA) before getting hurt. His days are numbered. If we wanted a left-handed nibbler like him in our rotation, Perez would be a better and cheaper option. If it were up to me neither would be in the mix.

This is his worst season so far, but he's still been pretty solid. I'd take him, but probably not for that much.

Here is a somewhat more interesting thought from Dierkes: the Yankees may be willing to deal Ian Kennedy and/or Phil Hughes for "a young center fielder or first baseman" this offseason. Can we dump Nick Johnson?

There's so much that we could do, but who knows what we will do. We could still pull off a trade before the deadline tonight.
