Why are we still watching?
« on: August 25, 2008, 07:05:04 pm »
What are some of the things you guys are still looking forward to in this "lost" season?

September call-ups is a huge one for me. I realize we're not going to be calling up all the young guys that we'd like to, but the few that are going to get a chance will be fun to watch (hopefully).

I'm also looking out for how Milledge and Balester finish off the season. They're expected to be key pieces in the future, and both have plenty of developing left to do. Hopefully they can figure out a few more things before this season ends.

I'm watching for good individual performances from our younger players, and I'm looking to have the worst overall record.

I think I'm at the point where I'm watching individuals. I like to watch Bonifacio and Milledge play. For some reason I have a bunch of Nationals on my fantasy team, Milledge, Zimmerman, and Hanrahan(very deep league).

The other reason is when we loose its like an accident and hard to turn away, and when we win it nice to see.

The losses will come (:?), but hoping that we lose = hoping our players (even our young ones) fail, IMO.

I'm still watching because I can't help it.  They're my team, so I watch them.  That's what I do.

Milledge's August:

G   PA  AB  R   H  2B 3B HR RBI  BB IBB  SO HBP  SH  SF GDP  SB CS   BA   OBP   SLG   OPS
+---+---+---+---+---+--+--+--+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+--+-----+-----+-----+-----+
  23  99  87  12  30  4  1  5  12   8   0  16   2   1   1   3   4  2  .345  .408  .586  .994

If he can have another month like that in September, I'll probably be guilty of having extremely high hopes for him going into next season.

I'm watching in case nobody else is. If bob or don says something offensive someone needs to be there to hear it and alert the press so we can be rid of one or both of them.  I should probably get a DVR so I have evidence

Unfortunately, I'm only "watching" when we play the Mets - so I'll take every opportunity I can get.

I'm also looking out for how Milledge and Balester finish off the season.

Balester's going to be shut down in the not too distant future, as he reaches an innings cap imposed by the Nats to make sure he doesn't overdo it this year.  But that will create an opening in the rotation for somebody else to get a few starts.

I'm only watching because my tickets are already paid for & they're non-refundable.

Actually   let's see:

1.  I got Zimmy right in front of my seats & he makes a great play just about every game.
2.  Like George Costanza, I can rationalize that sitting on my ass and drinking beer at the park is better than sitting on my ass drinking beer at home. " At least I'm out of the house."
3.  Watching a bad team play baseball is better than not watching baseball.

I'm still going because I still remember my 27-years-plus of residence here with no baseball at all...still going to all I can (will only be at four matches of the upcoming nine-fixture homestand though, due to conflicts - one with the Redskins and two each with DC United and the Mystics).

Will be renewing my season ticket too - better a losing team than no team.

I'll be honest, I haven't been watching...they reek.  The only incentive to watch them would be something along the same lines as slowing down on the highway to look at a really bad car wreck.

a fan hopes that their team will perform... A fan doesn't spend over $100 to watch a bunch of guys go out there and lay an egg in the middle of a state of the art stadium for an entire season.  That's not a fan - that's a sucker.  Ka-ching for the Lerners.
