Poor kid!

Yeah, I need to get some caffeine in me asap.  Weather system pushing in is giving me a migraine.  Of all the days!  So, I'm gonna run out and get a coke and down it w/ a couple excedrin migraine pills.  I had an ENT tell me to get ahold of caffeine asap when a migraine starts coming on and weather pressure tends to be my trigger.  I guess the VP news didn't carry far and long enough to stem this one off.

He's just hoping you'll leave him at home while you go to the game, so he can invite just a "few" friends by for the malted beverage of their choice.  Guarantee he starts to feel better just about 4 oclock.

No doubt ... sadly ... if you're too sick for school -- you're too sick for fun -- house rules suck ...  :?

Which is why you play hooky. You can be well enough to have fun all day.

That was always my philosophy.

Kim, Salty, Minty, Tom, Cal, Blue, myself, among others attended. It was pretty small but Bob Carpenter and Collin Balester came chatted and answered questions. Balester then signed autographs and pictures.

It was a nice little event that I hope they make annual. Pictures will be forthcoming. Probably in a day or two since my camera cord has been misplaced.

Haw!

The missus had late breaking work drama, so didn't make until halfway through the first inning.  We're there most nights at this point in the season, but rarely get there for first pitch on weeknights (both work way out in the 'burbs).  Glad the team did SOMETHING to recognise those folks who keep their best fans engaged (and thus stuff $$$$ in their pockets).

Mathguy and 2IPA's were also there, along with Zingerman and DaveBinMd from the MLB board.  There were a few other guys there that didn't really mingle much, Cascada perhaps?

It was a real plus that Carpenter was there as well, because Collin doesn't have the confidence in his public speaking that he does on the mound, and Bob was able to talk a lot around Collin and fill in with background and context, keep things moving, tell stories to puctuate points.

Things I enjoyed -

Someone asked what his favorite pitch was - fastball.  I followed up asking if he threw two seam or four seam, and he said he had just begun to throw the two-seam this year.

Spin man then borrowed a ball from a young guy awaiting an autograph opportunity, and gave it to Collin, whereby he showed how he grips each of his 5 pitches - the 2 fastballs, curve, slider, and circle changeup.  This is the kind of detailed insider info that many of us crave from time to time, and he had the room's attention as he showed how he grips his pitches, how he breaks the wrist differently for each.

Somebody asked when he realized he was going to be a professional baseball player, and in his response he mentioned that his dad was initially disappointed - he had wanted Collin to carry on the family profession - surfing.   Much laughter ensued at the unusual perspective of Sr. Balester.

Carpenter was asked how he felt about being renewed, and he revealed that he got the news his option has been renewed at 10:30 pm, with plenty of time to spare before the midnight deadline (Aug 1?).  Again, knowing chuckles all around, especially in view of the recent Crow deadline debacle.

There was an autograph session, then plenty of time for pictures with Collin before he had to return to the team.  Carpenter had to leave earlier to make it up to the booth for the start of the broadcast.

Upon breakup of the session, I saw Minty, Blue and Salty head directly to the nearest purveyor of quality malted beverages, and was able to get an order in before they finished.   Did you guys end up sitting together?

I forgot my camera, but  NOTLD was taking lots of pictures - I expect a full pictorial report by the end of the day... ;)

Yeah, I arranged for Bob to be there a while ago, but kept it a secret just to surprise y'all!  :icon_mrgreen:

I'm so glad you all had a nice time.  Collin & Bob were terrific guests and had lots to share.  It was a terrific gathering.

Did anybody tell CB40 that HammondsNats and 90% of the people on here thinks he is a stud?

Wish I could've made it.  I would still like to meet a lot of you on here in person.  We should work out a Sunday game/Friday game to make that happen.

Currently I am at a farm in Charlottesville, VA (yes, I said a farm) on dial-up and it takes one hour for one picture to upload so the pictorial might have to wait until tonight or tomorrow when I can get some high speed.

It was a pleasure meeting you all yesterday. I got caught on a shuttle bus during the Metro construction fiasco on the Blue/Yellow lines with Zingerman. We had a nice chat.

I had a Great Time and so did my friend.

Met up with Tom Terp, Blue, Salty, 2ips and Mathguy waiting to get in.  OOPS, forgot to mention Tom's daughter.  Does she have a screen name yet Tom (maybe Terpett, like Smurfet, only a young Terps fan)?  Maybe until she gets older, SMALLFRY (loves French Fries).   Hey, SHE may have an idea how she wants to be referred to!  Kim's older of the 2 girls were there momentarily before going of to hang with Grampa!

It was nice meeting NOTLD and others.

Meeting Collin was Great!  Only after the game I realized something.  NO AUTOGRAPH BY COLLIN.  :( I had lent my pen to someone to get Collin's autograph.  Got it back.  Then pictures were taken, so my friend and I had pic taken with Collin and then Collin left.  I got Bob's autograph, but not Collin's!  I'll try to get the picture developed and send it to him care of the team.  Maybe he'll sign it.

There was a picture taken of the bloggers who were left to take a picture of!  I want a copy!

Great fun!

His daughter is engaged. I think her fiance is a pretty good guy.
