Spectacular.

Apparently the dwindling economy has taken a bite out of Chief's moderation pay.  How did this DONKEY get an account?

DONKEY is our badass left fielder. Careful with your words

Hey there folks. I just recently stumbled across this site from a link on the Post's Nats Journal. It's very nice to find a Nats site with a lot of activity. My firm's held season tickets since the team came to town and I usually make it out to 50-60 games a year. I hope to join in here every once in awhile with thoughts (as low as they might be at times). Thanks for putting a solid site together!

Hi all!  I just started following the Team in November...I've been a Jim Riggleman fan since he managed the Padres (my Dad lives in San Diego) and I was beyond excited when he became Bench Coach for my Dodgers.  I also followed him last year in Seattle, as my Grandparents lived in WA and I've followed the Mariners for nearly 10 years.  It seems as though he may soon get another shot at managing...I could tell back in December from my research that the FO/Field Management of the Nats seems to be quite dysfunctional!

Additionally, the Nats made a great pickup in March with Joe Beimel.  Ned Colletti was a Dumb@ss for not re-signing him!

I hope to be able to add to the conversation(s) and hope to see Jim Riggelman back managing As Soon As Possible!!!

Riggleman might be managing sooner than you think.

Welcome to the boards.

I am pretty sure that upon joining the forum you are immediately most enthusiastic and dedicated Riggleman fan, though the Biemel top spot is already taken.

Welcome.  Feel free to jump on in to any discussion that suits you.  If you especially adventurous, you can petition for admission to the "uncensored" area for off-topic discussions that nobody wants their bosses to see over their shoulder.     ;)

Hi fellow Nats fans!

Just joined today.  I became a Nats fan in earnest last year, when I went to about 15 games or so.  My hometown team is the White Sox, but I have adopted the Nats as my National League team.  I frequent a fan site for the Sox, so I'm glad to find this site for the Nats.

Just a quick summary of some of my thoughts about the Nats:

1) Glad they finally fired Bowden.  Long overdue, IMO.  He is one of the two main reasons for the current state of the Nats.  Which leads me to...

2) The Lerners are cheap.  I'm not a fan who thinks that pro sports teams just print Monopoly money to pay players with, but based on my relatively small attendance sampling, I think more payroll could be added.  I have visited several other ballparks in recent years (Comiskey (of course), Camden Yards, Philly's new park, the Rockies' park, old Yankee's stadium and Cleveland's).  The concessions at Nationals park are among the most expensive.  Beyond that, spending a few extra dollars would create more buzz about the team.  The Dunn signing (even though he is not my type of player) is a good step in the right direction.  Bringing in at least one veteran free agent pitcher would be a huge help.

3) I won't discuss points here that are ongoing in other threads, so I will just make quick mention of a few other points.  Milledge needed to go to Syracuse to develop a new approach towards his career.  Dukes should be playing every day.  Kearns is not trade bait at the moment, but I don't see him being an $8 million player at any point in the near future.  Whatever trades take place this year, pitching should come back in return.  I like Acta as a Manager, and at any rate I don't think a change should be made until after the season.  And Cristian Guzman continues to amaze me, since I remember when he was an artificial turf hacker for the Twins a few years back.

4) Nationals Park is one of the nicer parks to see a game that I've been to.  If only the management would create enough interest to get casual fans out to see that.

I look forward to discussing Nats baseball with everyone here.

Welcome to the boards. Chief is probably too busy washing sportsfan's mouth out with soap to offer an official welcome. Watch were you step as all the dogs aren't housebroken.

Thanks for the welcome.  I'll even overlook the fact that you took my 1st choice for an avatar! :)

Howdy asindc. I think you'll like it here. Good conversation, knowledgeable folk (mostly) and a sense of humor. Try the game day thread if you're not at the park.

Welcome, asindc.  We actually have another Sox fan who has found this a comfortable place to hang out, perhaps you've even met on a Sox forum before.  Hope you enjoy us.

He posts here as Soxfan59, often with humorous Cubs stuff.  He has mentioned posting on White Sox forums before, not sure how active he is.  His profile:  http://www.wnff.net/index.php?action=profile;u=272

Hey, asindic!  Welcome aboard!  Yes, I am "that other Sox fan," and we must always emphasize our Sox are White!  I'd love to hear your connection to our beloved White Sox.

This is a great place to hang out -- fans who are passionate about baseball and the Nats.  i love it!  The Nats are my favorite NL team too.

Hi! I'm a Cards fan by birth and by trade, but in shopping for a second team, I think I've settled on the Nats. They have Bob Carpenter, who I'm used to listening to. They have, uh, a cool uniform set. And, if I'm being honest, they're sort of a trainwreck in a way that I find compelling.

Jeffro,

welcome to the trainwreck that is the Washington "Natinals".

I'm a Cubs fan from New Orleans, but since I'm so used to losing - I've joined the Nationals bandwagon. I'm also a Caps hockey fan, and i love the NOVA- DC- area.  Heck, if I could find a job over there I'd be gone in a heart beat.

(any people working for VW on here?)

Have fun and maybe we'll get our 2nd win before May.

Welcome, BUT, who are you rooting for this weekend?!

And to answer I Can Throw, not sure, haven't checked yet.  Gave me a good idea to look there.  Hmmm.

Hey Nats fans!

Linty here, just signed up after being pointed here by the Nats MLB.com board.

My main team is the Indians but I've adopted the Nats as my National League team as i've lived in Richmond for the past 15 years and since I get MASN and am too cheap to order Extra Innings or MLB.tv I have been watching all the Nats games since MASN popped up on the tv dial.

I love watching the team nightly. It's been frustrating watching lose these past couple days but I can't wait to make my trip up in July to watch the Nats play and (beat) the Cubs a few days before my birthday!

I love the offense with this team and I think we'll only get better with Bowden out of the way!

This is an awesome site and I can't wait to contribute to this wonderful site!

A lot of folks here are big fans of the movie Major League.  We'd like to sacrifice SCREECH to JOBU, to get some wins.  Bob Uecker gets quoted too.

Lintyfresh85 = skippy1999?

I just joined here too.  I only just started following baseball last year, and for some reason liked the Nats more than the home state O's.  There is much I still don't know so in addition to the conversation I am hoping to pick up knowledge of the game.  OPS?  SLG?  etc.

I followed the MLB board too, but just discovered this board and how much more active it is.

Nathan, see
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?page=stats/glossary
for definition of the MANY statistical abbreviations in baseball.
OBP   On-base percentage; (H + BB + HBP) divided by (AB + BB + HBP + SF)
OPS = On-base percentage plus slugging percentage.
SLG = Slugging percentage; TB divided by AB
