Too much = a 2nd rounder?
A 2nd round pick really isn't THAT valuable. There's not that great of a chance that one will turn into a perennial Pro-Bowler or something.
A. Theres still the fact that, as i said earlier. no other teams even listened to offers if it required giving up a round 2 pick. There is definitely a reason for that.
B. A lot more good players come out of the second round than you think. Players like:
Osi Umenyiora
Demeco Ryans
Marcus McNeil
Roman Harper
Tony Scheffler
Maurice Jones-Drew
Devin Hester
Lofa Tatupu
Karlos Dansby
Bob Sanders
Michael Boulware
Madieu Williams
Antwan Odom
Charles Tillman
Rasheam Mathis
E.J. Henderson
Anquan Boldin
Mike Doss
Andre Gurode
Clinton Portis
Deion Branch
Drew Brees
Kyle Vanden Bosch
Chad Johnson
Fred Smoot
Aaron Schobel
Matt Light
Chris Chambers
Shaun Rogers
Ian Gold
Jerry Porter
Marcus Washington
Dre Bly
Flozell Adams
Patrick Surtain
Samari Rolle
And that's dating from 1998.
Some of these may be argued as notable, but i listed them anyway.
In the first round of the '04 draft, 20 of 31 players drafted panned out. in the 2nd round of that draft, 10 of 31 reached at least near the same level as many of the 1st rounders.
In the '03 draft, 16 of 31 first rounders panned out. in the second round, 12 did very notable jobs as well.
My point is, second rounders are not chump change by any means.
*Years '03 and '04 were used because players are proven.
