The good thing about firing Davey is you break the ties of his personal friends Hickey and Coles who could not be any worse at their jobs.   My guess is that Mini Me doesn't want to pay someone else for the remainder of the year, so we might have to wait until next year for this train wreck to get a new captain.

Would Parra make a good interim manager? This team desperately needs some energy and a new voice.

after listening to Werth on the 11th inning podcast, I'd vote for him to get the job. He might be a lousy manager, but it would certainly be entertaining.

Oh, heck. Why not Boz as an interim?

At the very least, Coles and Hickey need to go. Multiple other teams have already made coaching/managerial changes - something's gotta give eventually....

News flash: Coles I  think is on thin ice. Davey's comments about not taking walks showed a split.

They're old friends and Mini Me will be reluctant to pay another hitting coach for the rest of the year with Coles already guaranteed his '25 salary.  Coles going down would mean Davey is not far behind.

This isn’t a serious baseball team. PECOTA had us at .417, we’re at .400 after a miserable losing streak. Fire him if you want some momentum bounce this month, Davey will eventually land somewhere else with a real roster and probably be fine.

They need a better hitting coach and someone who will make them play better fundamentals.  More attention to detail.

They fired Dusty and Davey came in and Won the WS. Dusty went to Houston and won Rings. Many good to great Nats are on other teams. Look at their rosters, We could fire Davey, staff and hire more cheap old retread. Beware Colorado released Bud Black the other day. You could take a chance on a younger new coach and staff but they will have to figure things out on the run. Can you stand waiting a few more years? By that time the few current decent players will be traded for more prospects to flourish in a other systems. Then another cycle for manager staff and new prospects to jell. Then if they all come together, you have to keep them and bring in others to fill in as team matures. I'm grateful for the WS we won but I doubt DC Baseball will contend anytime soon. I'm there for whatever happens. Thank goodness for DC baseball.

He landed here with a good roster and immediately missed the playoffs with one of the most talented teams in baseball. Why anybody seems to think he'll do well elsewhere is beyond me?

This is the end of the line for Rizzo and Davey in terms of being a GM or manager.  No one respects the way this org is run, and Davey hasn't just lost, he's turned the team into his little kingdom by making woefully incompetent friends his coaches.  Small market KC fired Ned Yost four years after he won their 1st WS in 30 years and he's done as a manager.  Davey will be too whenever his run here is over.

And then he won a World Series. He was successful in Chicago with Maddon as well. Full stop, he's already a successful manager because he has a ring.

Maybe he won't do well at his next stop, but he ain't the problem with this team.

Better fundamentals? Like what? The baserunning and defense are much better than last year.

I've said this before...dave had as much to do with them winning the WS in 2019 as I did...maybe even less.  That team won in spite of him...not because of him...

They should send you a WS ring if Davey has one.

"mindfact" was a term on wnff in its more popular days derived from our still #1 posting member, Sportsfan882, who came up with "I don’t care. It's a fact in my mind. "

How is he not the problem? He's made the playoffs one time as a manager. The 2018,2019 and 2020 teams all should've made the playoffs and he squeaked in one time in 2019 and then had an improbable run to the World Series. I'll always be thankful for 2019 but the 7 years outside of that season still happened. He's nearly an entire season under .500 as a manager. What are we even doing here? Anywhere else and he would've been fired 3 years ago.

Davey came in and missed the playoffs with a team that the season prior won nearly 100 games and then barely made the playoffs the next season. Yes they won the World Series and flags fly forever but Dusty was unequivocally a better manager. Its not even remotely close.

How is he not the problem?

We can point to specifics:

-Renewing his friends-as-coaches last year before the end of the season in spite of years of miserable job performance
-baserunning blunders that have never been addressed, and continue into this season
-miserable defense, with the same carelessness that we see with the baserunning
-absurd lineups with guys moved all over the order and playing almost everyday in spite of hitting .150
-obsession with lefty-righty matchups that make little sense given massive hitting slumps and weak contact
-accepting his role as a pawn in the org, and not standing up to all the play-the-contract nonsense

He's the perfect fit for one of the most dysfunctional orgs in sports.  An inept bureaucrat who collects his paycheck, hires his friends, and doesn't question the garbage instructions he gets from Mini Me and Rizzo.
