Nats Stats 2025
« on: April 05, 2025, 12:33:39 pm »
Not getting on base - 29th in Walks, 25th in OBP...but tied for 5th in HRs

Rotation/Bullpen divide - 12th in Starter ERA at 3.86, 29th in bullpen ERA at 7.23

Keibert's hitting - super low whiff rates and K rates, super low hard hit rates and exit velocities

Yep, another lost year as we dive deeper into complete irrelevancy.

Saw earlier that weve had the second most swings at balls out of the zone

We can't even be the best at that!

Team OPS is 10th, Starter ERA is 12th...but Bullpen ERA is 29th, Bullpen BB/9 is 30th at 6 walks per 9 IP

Also tied for 1st in caught stealings with a below average 74% stolen base success rate.

In terms of luck - tied for last in grounding into DPs in spite of being near the top in ground ball/flyout ratio.   OPS with RISP was running way behind total OPS but is now just 4 points apart after the Dodger series.

Not measured by Statcast, levels of team and fan angst when Hickey trots out to the mound.

Overall better than expected after 12 games, but with the same carelessness on the basepaths, in the field, and bullpen as last year.

Remember all those years in the mid to late 2000's where the Yankees were awful in April but then won the AL East in a laughter by September? Maybe the Nats are like that now.

SSS for at least a couple more weeks, but statistically I'm most excited about homers. Some power!

The bullpen bb/9 is the angst in a nutshell. Free bases are the source of jams and needing perfection. I am curious about their rate of turning opponents contact in play into outs. 1- BABIP.

Team opponent BABIP is .323, ranks 28th, same rank as last year

Run differential now -20.  Only team worse in MLB is the next opponent, the Rockies, at -51.

So we get a great game out of Williams and the bullpen, even Sims, and lose. Sigh.

I’m so mad at Rizzo and learners.  They decided to suck.  Very disappointing.  It is important to spend so that you are ok.  We were in position where a couple of position moves and bullpen pieces would have made a huge difference.  We are becoming entrenched in a losing culture.  So unnecessary.

Rizzo doesn't have the creativity, ability to adjust, or skill to work with a low budget.  He also can't draft and develop.  He just brings in scratch off ticket players he hopes he can trade for something and that strategy has failed miserably.  Meanwhile, there aren't many reinforcements on the farm.

At least Tampa Bay has a process for dealing with a low budget.  This team does not, just PR covers about "reboots" and "rebuilds" that very few are buying into now, and never should have fell for in the first place.

Uh, our roster this year consists of mostly starters that we've either developed, or traded for as long term pieces: Ruiz, Lowe, Garcia, Abrams, Crews, Young, Wood, Irvin, Parker, Gore, and Ferrar.

To those we've added some crappy pieces including DeJong (who at least has played well on defense) & Bell and some whom the jury is still out on (Williams, Soroka). We also added back Finnegan who has been stellar.

The black hole has been the rest of the bullpen though we've got 3 members currently on the IL (Law, Ribalta, and Brzykcy)

Exactly, they're mostly AAAA players taking the team to a 6th straight losing season.  Half of these guys wouldn't be starting elsewhere. Moreover, the pitchers mostly came from later rounds because the 1st rounders all flamed out.

Looks like we are now officially in the same class as the Twins, Marlins, Pirates, etc. Sad when you think about it, this team had freakin Juan SOTO & Trea Turner etc etc just a few years ago.

basically, it's Wood and Lowe. Garcia would probably be in a platoon more or less based on a belief that his hitting will come around. To be fair, Ruiz is earning his playing time for now.

Abrams would be starting for a lot of teams.

Back to some stats...

Opponent OPS is .790, 2nd worst in MLB, only the Rockies are worse.
Team ERA is 5.05, 2nd worst in MLB, only the Rockies are worse.

Bullpen ERA of 6.86 is the worst by nearly a full run over the Angels, the Rockies are 4.71.   Interesting matchup this weekend between the NL's two worst teams by run differential.
