Has Eller ever been scratched in his career??

From AI (FWIW):

Lars Eller has been a healthy scratch. He sat out three games as a healthy scratch in mid-January before returning to the lineup on January 18. He also sat as a healthy scratch for one game in December. In early 2023, he was also a healthy scratch for a game against the Islanders.

Chuckie should have started these last 2 games, if not 3...

Didn’t Lindgren have some personal issue that caused him to miss a game?  Maybe that’s a factor in not going to him.

Too bad. That’s offsides.  A lead would have been nice.

Dunno...I know LT missed morning skate and they recalled Stevenson and sent Shepherd back to Hershey today...not sure what's up...

Man...our PP is non-existent...

Because the PP is the same PP as the regular season. Everyone knows where the puck is going.

Whatever happens tonight and the rest of the postseason, the Caps need to start planning for a team without Ovi. He doesn't have the speed or energy to make up for this anymore.

Son just texted the same thing. "That last sequence with Ivie turning the puck over really needs to lead to a conversation about his future in the very short term about scratcjhing him if this goes to Game 6".

But it is speed. NHL is faster now. Caps has some fast skaters, like McMichael and Leonard.

Don’t think it’s really lack of speed against Carolina.  The Canes are great defensively and have some elite offensive guys.  Strome really blossomed this year but he’s still not an elite 1C. That hurts on the PP.  Backstrom never got enough credit for making the PP go back in the day. Dubois has not done much either as 2C.  That said they won the fancy stats in games three and four.  Really a pretty decent effort against a team that might win it all.

That was literally the Caps best 45 minutes of postseason hockey and they couldn't do crap.

Two division winners out of the playoffs and two more on the brink.

Oh well.  Go Crystal Palace?

Sidenote - Zimm was at the game last night.  The tension in the building was palpable, it's a shame the crowd wasn't given the opportunity to blow the roof off.

I'd say there's zero chance of Eller coming back.

I wonder whether he'll end up as a player-owner like Jagr & Kladno.

Christian Djoos plays for Brynäs, so they are already a Caps alum outpost.

I'd go so far as to say less than zero.  I can't seem to find an infinity symbol on my keyboard or I'd use that...

Also, with Backy moving on...I assume that really creates a much bigger salary cap space for 2025-2026 and beyond with his salary off the books a year early?  I'd like to see Bovi stick around...

We need a top line centerman...as we seem to have 3 second-line talent level guys in Stromer, Mikey and PLD...and somehow we have to get a top line D man and put Carlson on our bottom D pairing...

Backstrom's contract wouldn't come off a year early. It expires this summer.

The following players are UFAs this summer (salary cap hits in parentheses):

Backstrom ($9.2M)
Mangiapane ($5.8M)
Oshie ($5.75M)
Eller ($2.45M)
Beauvillier ($1.25M)
Raddysh ($1.0M)
Bear ($912,500)

And Alexeyev ($825,000) is an RFA.

After next season, the pending UFAs are Ovechkin, Milano, Duhaime, Frank, Carlson, and Van Riemsdyk.

None of the above counts players currently assigned to Hershey with the exception of Ethan Bear. I would say the most notable pending name in Hershey is Hendrix Lapierre, who will be an RFA this offseason.

Considering how everyone piled on the Oshie contract at the time, that worked out well all around.  Meanwhile Troy Brouwer's last NHL game was pre-Covid.

Thanks...for some reason I thought Backy had another year.  Since he's been LTIR, it really wouldn't have mattered as far as the salary cap is concerned anyway.

Bovi is the only 2025 UFA that I would re-sign...and I'd give him quite the raise...

Duhaime and Frank are the only two 2026 UFA's that I would re-sign...
