Take Bobby Witt's contract or Jackson Merrill's and inflate it. Maybe add a premium to the $/WAR for guys who compile a lot of WAR for the position? That seems to be a good model.
I imagine you’re right, but how can we consider paying him more than players at premium defensive positions?

Are we thinking his ceiling is a 50 HR guy? I think we’ve found our middle of the order power guy for rest of decade, but not ready to anoint him a star

So maybe you adjust Witt or Merrill's deals for defense, but you bump it up for OPS and recency. I think Wood's speed is another plus over a common dh / 1b /lf with d liabilities.

I guess my point is to take a prior contract as a model and then adjust by explaining how / why there's a difference.

Nusbaum:
the statcast era includes 3 years of Harper, including his best, Soto from 2018-22, Scwarber's June 2021, plus prime Rendon.

Just enjoy him while we have him. You already know the inevitable outcome.

Lerners will be gone by when it’s time to pay wood. If leonsis buys the team, he keeps homegrown stars.

They COULD be gone. If Mark doesn't get the overpay he wants he'll just hold onto the club. I mean, why not? They aren't losing money and they put nothing back into it.

I did find it quite funny that Grant Paulsen said he wants to fight everyone who replies to his James Wood tweets with whether he'll be a Dodger or Philly lol. Like you know what, maybe they shouldn't let all the damn talent walk away or get traded and fans wouldn't be so frustrated and jaded that they wouldn't make these masochistic jokes all the time.
