The absolute worst thing would be for him to get hot at the end of the season and the Nats to bring him back next season.

It's a small thing, but Chaparro getting the call before a healthy Joey Gallo is something I don't think happens past few seasons.

Gallo back today per The Nats Report, which probably means Blankenhorn is heading back to Rochester.

62 ABs at Rochester: .177   .378   .484   (.862 OPS) with 6 home runs.

He’s a good Triple A guy at this stage of his career.

The only reason he would be on the active roster at this point would be if they wanted to do him a solid. They should not do that.

If he is a pinch hitter, okay. If he is taking a single plate appearance from Yepez or Chaparro, bad. Very bad.

He’s helping to accumulate losses.  Should sign Rosario back also.

At least the fans will get a nice breeze off Joey Gallo's bat . . .

on a day that many of us hoped we'd see Dylan Crews, we get Joey Gallo. :(

Yep.
Sad.  I would think Crews is pissed.  Probably not staying with the Cats anyway so may not matter.  But why do this?

My only guess is that they bring Gallo up to show he is healthy, and some desperate team in the hunt picks him up. That is the longest of shots, but basically we are talking about what the Angels did with Giolito last year.

Per Zuck: Gallo will get some playing time against RHP but the priority, according to Davey, is to give playing time to Chaparro, Yepez and Tena.

What is the purpose of this?   Bring him back next year and try to flip him at the ‘25 deadline?

There is zero upside to this move. Absolutely mind boggling.

Nah, I'm just guessing they want  a lefty in the mix occasionally with Yepez and Chappy (and Call). As between Blankenhorn and Gallo, Blankenhorn got his chance, so can't complain, so they are basically giving Gallo his chance to play himself into a better position. I'm sure they told him, "look, we'll give you a shot under these conditions, and if you can't live with that, then we can release you and you can see if there's anyone who would actually play you more." The team is low on veteran leadership at this point, besides Vargas, so there's that aspect too.

Doing right by a veteran on a one year deal tells me they have more of those in mind for future years. That’s sad.
