Haboob!
That's wild. I fear that insane weather events such as this are nothing compared to what we're likely to see in the coming years/decades.

Good of them to post the image rather than just reposting the tweet, I haven't clicked on a Twitter/X link in a year and a half.

A 300+MPH tornado was recorded in Iowa today according to Reed Timmer, that's the strongest tornado ever recorded.

My theory is that climate scientists already know we're very much screwed, but they don't want to tell the world exactly how bad it is, for fear of inciting panic.

Technically, I think they have been telling us for a good while and people have just mostly laughed it off and called them irrational panic monkeys. I guess if nothing else, most people seem to accept that the climate is changing, now. The major point of resistance looks to be whether this is just a natural weather cycle and change, or if it is indeed manmade climate change. There's also a healthy side of 'What does it matter why it's changing? I'll be dead before it's all that bad so it's not really my problem to worry about.'

There was a good article in the Post last year about the how "Climate Doomerism" is replacing "Climate Denialism" as the bigger problem in the eyes of many climate scientists:

Tornadoes in Connecticut right now. There were high probability forecasts earlier for tornados stretching from Vermont to Maine.

Flight was cancelled due to Debby. Alaska couldn’t get me on another flight until Wednesday night. Ended up on Delta tomorrow. Unfortunately a stopover in Atlanta.

Just got back on Delta.  Could not wait three days for Alaska. Apparently they ran out of sled dogs.

Yes. Landed around 5:00 am. Amazingly the gate for the next flight was right next to the one we landed at.
