I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but Sykora is shockingly underrated by the prospect lists. He should be elevated to Wilmington for a few starts before he is shut down and then he should be an MLB top 100 prospect heading into next season.

Prospect lists havent been updated quite yet. He will be top 100 after they're updated.

But also, its Single A. He's basically facing high schoolers and college players who were average to above average. Most folks cant handle velo. Double A is really the discriminator. If he's doing this in Double A, he will shoot up the prospect lists.

Dont know if anyone has heard interviews with him, but he really prides himself on going deep in games. He really views that as the challenge. With Bennett coming back, the Nats could have a really strong rotation in two or three seasons

That makes sense and yeah, I can't wait to see him and Susana in AA. That's where it starts to get real.

Might be our #2 or 3 prospect going into next season assuming Wood graduates.

https://www.mlb.com/news/travis-sykora-single-a-nationals-prospects-combined-no-hitter

Quote
Currently Washington’s No. 13 prospect (a spot from which he is expected to take a significant leap next week when MLB Pipeline unveils its updated Top 30 Prospect lists), Sykora struck out 10 in his latest dominant outing for Fredricksburg. The 20-year-old also logged five no-hit innings in his previous start on Aug. 2 against Lynchburg, and also threw five more no-hit innings in another start back on July 9.

Of Sykora’s first 15 starts in pro ball, he’s held the opposing team to zero hits in three of them.

The numbers for the Nationals’ 2023 third-round pick don’t stop there. He’s held opponents to one (unearned) run and racked up 28 strikeouts in his last three starts (15 IP). His last defeat came 10 starts ago, on June 5. All told, Sykora improved to 3-3 with a 2.42 ERA and a whopping 96 strikeouts in his first 63 1/3 pro innings, all at Fredericksburg.

He should be.  Who knows what odd ideas run through this org's development operation.

Good question, but I dont think it really matters. The big part is him getting to Double A next season and spending some time there.

No.  He probably gets at least 10 starts in Wilmington, and if that goes well he'll be in Harrisburg.  A lot of these low minors pitchers only get 3-4 innings per start so they need that time in AA to really get broken in, and start getting 5-7 inning outings.  Moreover, walk rates can soar once they get to the high minors.

Sykora turns 21 in April, so plenty of time, but I'd be surprised if he even made it to Rochester next year.

I mean, best case is a late 2025 call up but yeah, 2026 is much more reasonable if he continues on this trajectory.

We have enough to sort out next year with gore, Irvin, Parker, cavalli, herz, lord, Stuart, and Lara ahead of him on the depth chart.

Honestly, if we’re out of it at next year’s deadline it might make sense to look into moving gore with 2.5 years of control for a similarly controlled good young hitter

Unless they just want to dump his arb-eligible salary next year, Gore won't fetch much.
