Dykstra on Sykora moving up to #2:

Quote
Jump: Travis Sykora, RHP (2024: 11 | 2025: 2)
Sykora led the Minors (minimum 80 innings) with his 39.2 percent strikeout rate and 20.8 percent swinging-strike rate over 20 starts with Single-A Fredericksburg, and he accomplished that while dealing with the hip issue that diminished his velocity, somewhat, in his first full season. He still sat 93-96 mph and showed two above-average secondary pitches in his slider and splitter, and that combination of arsenal and results pushed him from the third round and into the Top 100. He is expected to return by May and could see even more of an increase in velo once fully healthy.

Getting these kind of strikeout/whiff numbers with a "diminished" fastball is extremely promising. If he gets healthy and comes back to sitting 95-97, with two plus offspeed pitches, he is going to be a beast.

Sorry if I missed it, but I didn't see this question answered in this thread: will he be part of the 2025 Opening Day roster?

No, he's not slated to pitch until May due to offseason hip surgery. Most likely is that he starts in extended spring training before heading out to Fredricksburg or Wilmington.

I really don't understand FG being so bullish on Susana and not Syroka. He has a ton of swing and miss, even with the velo drop. He already has good control. He has three plus pitches that he can use to get righties and lefties out with. If he can regain his velo and sit 95-97, he has front of the rotation potential.

They just fell in love with Susana's slider and his easy heat. The slider and the velo are so elite that they :az:

And yet, here is Sykora has the better numbers. And he throws strikes.

Patience. Susana and Sykora both look good. I did not know that his fastball has slowed last season...just looked at the results and thought "wow". If the hip heals, Sykora looks like an ace. And, of course, Susana looks like a batter-destroying monster.

And if Cavalli...

have to realize that there's only about 1 month age difference between Susana and Sykora
